View Full Version : throttle sticking

Okay so this is the second time this happened to me,
I was driving the car and the throttle stuck open, the first time it was bouncing off the limiter, so I shut it off, I was in at the corner of 33RD and
vine so I had to move it, started it again, still stuck, shut it off flipped on the hazards, I was going to get out and un stick it, but it was 4: 00
And there was about 20 cars behind me. So I started it again and it was fine….. pulled around the corner, and opened the hood, everything seemed ok, the throttle cable moved freely, so did the throttle plates, the spring seemed fine,
Figured the cable was gummed up or something and never had any problems, this morning I was driving and just as soon as I let off the throttle to turn, it rapped up to 8k real quick and before I could do anything it jumped right back down to normal.
So again when I got to work I looked at it and the throttle and everything moved freely with no problems, and again the spring
For the throttle return on the bracket works fine, I am kinda thinking that since the cable is routed way different than stock normally is
It might have a sharper turn in it causing it to stick every once in awhile.
But I guess I have never realy delt with this problem, its not a big deal I am sure it’s a simple fix, but just kinda looking for some tips or advice or anything of the sort from someone who might have seen this kinda problem before…
thanks

Somthing is tugging on the cable??? (possibly something lose???) Then again your assuming its' the throttle because of the revving which makes sense but i'm thinking the problem could be something else..

you said it runs up to 8k and then dies?

id take it for a long drive and wait til it does it again then shut it off immediately and go move the cable around just a little bit in different places to see if it is sticking in a certain spot.

Or just put a big spring on it.

Or you could squeeze 5 ounces of astroglide into her ass. (http://www.tuckermax.com/archives/entries/date/tucker_tries_buttsex_hilarity_does_not_ensue.phtml #278)

no he said one time it revved to 8k and then unstuck itself and went back to idle. The first time it went to the limiter and stayed there.

No it doesn’t die, all it does is rev, then and stays revved until I shut the car off, or unsticks itself and goes back to normal.
I have no sensors or any kind of emissions there is nothing except the throttle that could be making it rev

yea it is deff> something to do with the throttle and most stuff I have seen has been telling me to just put somekind of extra spring on it,
idk yet

are you TBW or full cable

It is the factory cable, on the original gsxr 1000 bracket and throttle bar.

oh yeah its not stock

i'd check the individual throttle bodies and make sure theres no obstruction in the flappers (chunk of aluminum sticking out stuff like that)

otherwise i'd say wait for another nice day and drive hoodless

it could be something like that, but i doubt it.

If there was a chunk of something hitting the throttle valve it would be more consistant, and it wouldnt fix itself after a second or two. I do like the hoodless idea tho.

i didnt mean a huge chunk. just enough that at the right moment of thigns vibrating it could cause a glitch.
