Few weeks back heading out of town to go pick up a quad. Coming up to a stop sign and the guy in front of me starts taking off. He quickly slams on his brakes and I didn't have enough time to react...(i figured he would keep driving and I'd have more room to stop) so I slam into the back of the car (during the last decent snow) . Totaled the trunk, bumper, possibility a tail light.. easily $1000+ in damage. Park truck, get out to go talk to the guy I just hit.. he speeds off. Get back in the truck, follow him down the road he goes into the college. Park truck again, get out and wait for him to turn around. Comes up to the end of the street and turns and speeds off the other way and disappears down another road..
I figured well if hes gonna take off then he must not want anything to do with it.. Should I even worry about police business anymore?

I think you're in the clear... Now you'll have money to buy parts you skipped out on...

If its been a few weeks. who cares. Probably has warrants, no license, or was drunk/high. If you did what you said you did, you made a genuine effort to take care of the situation. If you have a plate number, I might be able to find out why they took off.

Same thing happened to me in my dads truck. I let off the brake while changing stations at a stop light and ram the rear of a buick, buick takes off and runs red light going over the viaduct at about 90 in a 35.

fleeing the scene of an accident is admission of guilt as far as the judicial system is concerned, but since you didn't report it right away, there's nothing you can do. Talk to your insurance company. Since its been a few weeks the cops won't do ****.

Not that they would have done anything had you called them sooner, or even immediately following the incident.
