So.....I have this "friend" who wants to buy my car....He wants to make payments on it, I want to get out of payments for it. He doesnt have the credit to obtain a loan. Is there a way the title stays with my bank, and he can register the car to drive around in?

Cliffs: Car has lien on title, friend wants to make payments on it, cant get approved for loan to obtain car, if sold to him, can he register to get plates or not?

Ugh not without the title. Also good friend or not this doesn't sound like a good idea.

Yeah Minh, if the title is in your name, you have the be the one with the registry.
Tell him to either get a co-signer, or not be broke.

Nothing compared to mine though. But sounds like you'll have to sell it to a different asian.

you can have him pay for the registration and insure it under his name, and keep the title till he pays it off. i would also make him put the deductible money up front in case he does get in an accident.

Is it really a requirement that you own a vehicle to carry your own insurance on it. Not that I have done it, but it seems like through my agency I could walk in a put insurance on whatever I want whether I own it or not.

Wouldnt registration have to be under my name tho?

no. i have 3 cars insured under my name that are owned by my dad or the shop. doesn't matter who a car is registered to, what matters is that the driver is insured.

as it was said, if you go that route, make sure you have the deductible money up front. or else you may wind up with a wrecked car and a "friend" that doesn't feel like making payments on a car this "friend" cant afford to fix.

Sounds like a good way to turn a "friend' into an enemy.

If he is hte only buyer you can find for the car you need to either A) lower your price or B) advertise better.

Either way every car will sell for the right price, this isn't selling this is still owning a car that is depreciating while he "rents to own".

Ah crap, the periods alluding to a deeper and more involved issue.

He wants to make payments on it,
If it's more than one payment as a non-refundable security deposit with the balance due within 5 business days there are too many payments. The car does not leave your possession until the balance due is paid in full. Understand?

I want to get out of payments for it.
Good! Having no car payment is a great way to live.

He doesnt have the credit to obtain a loan.
Oh no; things just took a turn for the worse. Even the professional debt dealers who have an arsenal of laws, attorneys and repo men at thier disposal don't think they will get thier money back. If the pros don't think they can get thier money back what makes you think you can get your money out of him? What will you do in 3 months when he' already 2 months behind and making sorry excuses then up and moves to New York City with your sister that he knocked up last week and drops off the map after he sells the car to a chop shop and your sister to the slave trade to cover his new game cousol, 3 games, 10 pizzas and a bag of weed? I'll tell you what you'll do. You will keep making payments on a car that has been chopped up and is in 15 different states while trying to scrounge up enough money to search for your sister yourself, but you'e only $XXXX away from being able to hire a P.I. and then you off yourself when you reazlize the amount you are short is the amount this 'friend' still owes you. The gun you use was given to you to use on your 'friend' by your 'friend's' mother when she found out her grandchild wassold to slavery. This is how bad this stuff turns out. If this is what you want, then just give him the car and send your sister to a convent. Save everyone the greif and heartache of your bad decision.

Is there a way the title stays with my bank, and he can register the car to drive around in?
Sure! He can pay you a lump sum which you use to pay off the car. The bank releases the title and he puts it in his name. Once that is done he visits the bank again and puts the title in a safe-deposit box. Viola the title stays at the bank.

Reread everything above and decide if you really need to find out.

Meh, I have insured cars I have bought that had current plates on them, and never bothered to title it in my name, or get new plates till they were up. My 1987 V10 is still titled to my brother. I really should put it on my insurance......
