Well I am finally to the point that I realize that I can't have everything I ever wanted for the simple fact that I just don't have time to do it. I have come down to I like rock crawling best for all my hobbies. I was always planning to crew cab my K30 and wheel it. I found I am much too lazy to do this. So my new plan is a blazer. I know I want 87-91 for the TBI. The plan would be swap all the SM465/205 (install a lowmax) Dana 60/14 from Hank my k30. I am stupid enough to consider a 454 since I may have access to one but most likely not. I guess I wonder how I should lift it, how nice of one to get and how much to pay. I have found some pretty nice ones for 2500-3500. This seems like alot but like we all know you get what you pay for. I have also seen some dog eared piles of **** for 1000-1500. I know it will hurt me to rub a nice one on a tree but they have les under body rust and it seems if they are nice they are less cobbled. Do you think it is dumb to buy a pretty mostly rust free truck to build for rubbing on trees? I will most likey build some rub rails but I am not a exterior cage kinda guy.

What are you Going to do with the Turbo propane set up.
Hillbilly

Store it till I find something better to use it on. Either a short box 2wd or maybe a crew cab dually K30.

I think you should keep the k30 and then just build a K5. Keep you eye out for a good deal on a 60/14 combo. Baker has that crew cab K30 he might sell now that he is selling his big truck.

You can joe should be friends. He has been texting me trying to tell me I am stupid. Right now other than the drivetrain the K30 is a pile of ****. Ask Baker. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter (I have yet to find out where the cold comes in) rusty as ****. I want A/C and more room for people. The cab swap will be a ***** and it is completely apart meaning there is no wiring, dash and the doors are completely apart. A blazer will be the easiest way to get were I want. I really need to thin the herd anyway. I want a newer 3/4 ton next spring so I will pry sell the K10 anyway and maybe find a cheap auto 3/4 ton 4x4 for the turbo motor. I am thinking about selling the camaro too so you can all start to beat that drum too.

Plus baker better swap that axle into his truck unless he wants a fat little hillbilly calling him a pussy on the internet. I ain't scared.

I think the plan was to swap in the 60 so he could swap the 44 into the big truck, but now that the big truck is being sold, idk if he will mess with swaping into the truck because he has 4.56s now and the K30 has 4.10s and he doesn't want to switch gears.

Switching gears in a 14 bolt is no big deal.

IMHO a fullsize isn't as fun at Tuttle as something more Jeep or toyota sized. To go to the fun places every panel on it will be smashed if you are even 1/2 trying. I haven't been there for a few years so it may have changed. Have you been up the rock garden? A full size in there is a PITA. And that is one of the harder/more fun spots.

Yep, and it was with my k30. I think a blazer works great. I have only a few dents in my truck.
Hillbilly
16th August 2011, 09:54 AM
I guess I think 99% of the jeeps there are stockers with pop colars thinking they have something more that a up scale soccer mom vehicles. I walk up things that make most of them look like hogs on ice. I have yet to worry about dent since gm sheet metal is cheap. With a blazer I am pretty sure I can get through the last 300' of rock garden since then my under belly won't be so exposed with the shorter wheel base.

Buy my jeep, coil swap rear, lift it, lock it, and go climb stuff the blazer wouldn't
Hillbilly
16th August 2011, 10:05 AM
I won't have a jeep just out of principle.
Burntz
16th August 2011, 10:11 AM
I understand. Who would want a light solid axle short wheelbase jeep with a torquey fuel injected I6 and comfortable seating for 4 even 5 with just as huge as an aftermarket as old chevy trucks
Hillbilly
16th August 2011, 10:14 AM
Cause the motor isn't that great, the axles are weak and I already have the set that all the real jeep wheeler end up with if they are serious. Maybe you guys don't see what most jeeps become, a K30 drivetrain in a jeep.
Hillbilly
16th August 2011, 10:17 AM
Look at all these pussy full sized rigs. Just horrible how they can't go up anything.

Meh. If i don't sell the jeep and the engine goes or something I will be cummins swapping it with some Dana axles or maybe an 8.8" setup in back with a 4 link and springs

Your jeep doesn't even have a frame.
Burntz
16th August 2011, 10:28 AM
What do I need a frame for ? It weighs like 3200lbs. With a coil setup rear and a nice lift it'll outflex that chevy :)

My Chevy turns every tire on it with power and RTIed higher than your jeep. Just wait and we can see who goes where.

Ur chevy needs more power cuz it's heavy and is too easy to high center :p

Burntz

And we all know built VS built could be debated forever but stock for stock the jeep easily outperforms

Are we talkin ramp travel or offroadability ? I'd be curious as to what my jeep scores. No lift just bigger than stock tires
Hillbilly

My Grandma's buick could out perform most jeeps
Hillbilly
16th August 2011, 10:43 AM
The best thing about the stock 454 was idling up things while geared to the moon underpowered jeeps worked there ass of to get up stuff.

For a place that is closer and IMHO more fun you should try http://www.hogansoffroad.com/ I rented a cabin and was there for 4 days. It was the most fun I have EVER had. (with my clothes on) I would not go to moab or disney without a cage though. You can end up dead real fast.
Hillbilly
16th August 2011, 11:20 AM
We were talking about cages last night. Not sure what to do. I want one but I don't want one on the outside and I don't want to have 30 bars to hit your head on when you hit a bump.

A simple 6 or 8 point would be fairly non-intrusive but add tons to the safety.
6 point http://shop.eoronline.com/product.sc?productId=2&categoryId=2
8 point http://shop.eoronline.com/product.sc?productId=3&categoryId=2
Go with the 8 if you plan to take people with you. If I still had my bender I would just build one for you. I used up over 500 feet of tubing when I was doing cages. With the price of steel and a bender it's easier to just order a kit anymore.

Have you wheeled anywhere but tuttle? TC is like the lamest wheeling ever compared to moab or disney.
