View Full Version : Toshiba Satellite problems

I bought a Toshiba Satellite with Windows Vista in '09. The keyboard stopped working so I let it sit for about a year while I used my desktop. Now I need my laptop for school, but after sitting for a year, it's not running properly. It's extremely slow and has to be restarted constantly. How much would it cost to wipe the system clean, and would that fix the problem? Also, is there a chance of Vista being salvaged or should I load Windows 7 on it, and if so how much would that cost?
If you can answer these questions, that would be awesome. Thanks so much!

Load 7 on it, Vista sucks.

I know, but if I can save Vista, I will since it would be cheaper than buying 7. Just need to get some prices so I can take action!

Download windows 7. Pretty sure I have an install disk for 7 but it's not "genuine". What are the tech specs on the laptop?

4GB of RAM and I don't know what else you need... I did just find an option to upgrade Vista so maybe that will help a little... This laptop is still screwy though.

im assuming ddr2? If you go to system info it should tell you processor speed, memory specs, etc.
You got the keyboard to work? I have that windows 7 CD, if you want to totally reformat the computer and re-install windows 7 fresh, lemme know. Just save anything you need to a portable harddrive first (or I have one we can transfer them to temporarily). Is it a dual core processor? My desktop is a quad core so Idk if this cd is the x64 or whatever. Have to check in a bit.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7350 @ 2.00GHz, 64-bit operating system... I don't know what any of that means -- Does it help? And the keyboard will work as soon as I buy a new one off eBay. Stupid Toshibas...

None of that **** matters.
Don't you have a system restore option? You probably have a **** load of adaware, malware and maybe even viruses on the computer, and registry errors that make it like molasses on a cold day. Women typically don't know what the **** they are doing and ruin every computer I come in contact with, so next time just try to stay in the kitchen unless you are looking up a recipe online.
If you can find the restore option on your computer, save your **** and do a FULL restore.

Anyway, I'm just trying to get a quote. But thank you for your infinite knowledge cradled in between your testicles, "Z28".

I wish you could read. You could stop wasting money and do it yourself.

You do realize that doing a system restore isn't going to wipe the computer clean, right? I wish you could read, then you'd see that I intend on installing Windows 7, which means I'd need to completely wipe-out the system, not just do a system restore that restores it back to the original settings.
Oh, but I'm a girl, so I don't know that. Brb, rubbing vagina on keyboard.

You missed the "if" there, buddy. It's highly doubtful Vista can be saved considering the condition of the computer. You should have known that since you're a man.

Now, stop being a relentless troll and let me get my quote.

Sadly this one time he isn't trolling most computers that came loaded with Vista have a hidden partition on the drive that holds an image of the OS as it was delivered from the factory. What he is trying to get you to do is not a system restore but actually a restoration to factory settings. Instead of loading the OS from a disc like in the old days you just use the partition to format the rest of the HDD and reinstall the OS. Restart the thing and hold F8 or F9 when it boots it should go to a menu that will allow you to utilize this partition. It only takes about an hour and it should run good as new. If not hit Burntz up and get him to flash it with his illegal copy of 7.

I will certainly take this into consideration. I'm much more receptive to advice from knowledgeable people when they don't throw in sexist jokes like an ignorant asshole and expect any sort of positive response. Thanks for your help -- I'll explore my options and see what would be the best bet for this computer. Sounds like it's definitely worth a try.

are you at scc or UNL? Regardless check with your respective computer store and see what they've got going on as far as deals for W7. I know UNL sells copies for like 10 or 20 bucks.

UNL's version is just an upgrade right? Not a full install disc?
Holley, if you want just bring it over tmw night or something and we can do a full re-install. How are you making the keyboard work? You kinda have to have a working keyboard for the prompts when you install windows lol

Posted via Mobile DeviceI have a really classy desktop keyboard with USB connector piled on top of it... I'm crafty. And I'll let you know -- Too busy trying to find a car before I fix my laptop (even though car-hunting is difficult without easy Internet access...)
