Does anybody now what the fine is for having a Non-DOT helmet? I don't want this to turn into a big issue about helmets and safety. I just was wondering if anybody knows what happens if I get caught using a Non-DOT helmet in Nebraska.

i was told the ticket for no helmet is $40, so if that is accurate i cant see it being more than that. how would you get caught?

Running isn't as easy on a slow ass Harley as it is on a crotch rocket.

i think it should be less if you're an organ donor.

I personally support the idea of rider's choice, but since Nebraska says I need to wear a helmet I will. Not necessarily one they approve of tho.

i didnt say anything about running. if you have seen the exhaust on my 12r youd know that its not a good bike to run with in town. i meant that a cop has never actually inspected my helmet and ive been pulled over more times than i remember.

It is not the fine that you need to worry about. They can take your helmet and not allow you to leave until you have a DOT one. If they want to really be dicks they can tow your bike. I too am a supporter of riders rights, but if we have to wear one anyways it might as well be DOT so you dont have to deal with the bullshit.

I've heard the fine is $100, but I have no proof.

I dont think theyd ever check... I had a half helmet that just had a DOT sticker on the back and it was obvious that it wasnt actually DOT approved but I never got talked to about it.

I've seen a lot of people that just buy a sticker to put on. I'm not too worried about it I was just wondering about what they would actually do if I did get caught for it. The only thing that would suck is if the cop was a **** and had the bike towed. I might as well just wear the helmet for 30 mins. until I can get over to Iowa.

If its not a dot approved helmet, its written as if you were not wearing a helmet. Ill have to look up the fine though. Ill post it up tonight when I get home or tomorrow.

If you're going to wear a helmet, why not wear a DOT approved helmet? Just curious.

I was looking at an airbrushed helmet and it just happened to be non DOT. I was just curious what the fine was. I will probably just get a cheap DOT helmet but I really liked the one I found.

Get a cheap DOT helmet and get it airbrushed... problem solved.

This is an option. Like I said I just liked the one I was looking at and was wondering the fines associated with a non DOT helmet. I guess I'll just have to start a thread asking about airbrushing places :)
