View Full Version : MY ESCORT!! SOMEONE HELP!!!
David
7th December 2007, 09:34 AM
OK SO heres the deal.. i need to get this ***** on the road..having made it the last 2 years without a problem and now i'm finding between my current tires and jackass's on the road i really don't want to drive the vette period in the snow...
I have a 95 escort that was previously wrecked. heres the quick story.. the car was totaled a lil over 8 years ago. a body shop over by old school bought it and then resold it to Lindsay's dad for cheap. Her dad was going to fix it up for her (lindsay) to drive as a first car. Took it to wolfgang and had them fix the frame.. When they did so they cut the harness in half:eek2smiley: what?? are you ****ing kidding me??? well when they put everything back together nothing worked. or well things did but when i turned the headlights on the windshield wipers came on kinda thing. He didn't realize this at the time. he finished nearly everything else before he realized there were huge ele. problems. He got pissed off and walked away from the project for awhile... well that while turned into him just buying her a mustang and the escort sat. :( So it's been in his garage for 8 years.
He told me if i could fix it, i could have it. He just wanted the garage space back and it hurts him to see my vette driving in snow. :(
HERES WHERE THE LEGAL PROBLEMS COME UP.
I got the car running. Got it insured. Even got it inspected (passed). They had alot of questions about it only having 45k miles on it for being an escort and being 12 years old. I explained the story and they said thats awesome. (short version)
Lindsay's dad never registered the car because no point in registering a car that can't be on the road right?
So i need to title it for him.. but i don't have a bill of sale. As in i don't have a bill of sale from 8 years ago.
He looked all over the house and couldn't get one. He went to the shop he bought it from or called i'm not sure and they said they'd write him a new one for the actual value of the car. **** THAT!!!!
What are my options???

So the shop they bought it from is going to screw you on the value of the car even though they don't get anything out of it?
that's lame
Coupelx
7th December 2007, 09:43 AM
you dont need a bill of sale to get a title changed over. really they dont care otherwise, i have written the BOS on the back of the title envelope. they just need to see something with a number value on it. so make your own BOS. hell you could even go to office depot and get a tablet of official bills of sale.
David
7th December 2007, 09:45 AM
pretty much. I just got on KBB to see what the value is... I figure it falls under the poor condition. Well you can't select poor and after taking their lil test it's deff. poor. Well fair is $1,300. I don't think they can figure out what the value was back when it was bougth so i think it might be based off current blue book is what they were saying. KBB says get it appraised but thats more money i have to toss at it.

I do have the title.

He went to the shop he bought it from or called i'm not sure and they said they'd write him a new one for the actual value of the car.
They should write him a BOS for whatever amount he paid for the car when he purchased it. (that's the whole point of the bill of sale). As mentioned, the BOS doesn't have to be anything special. They mainly want to see a price, and that the signature on the back of the title, matches the one on the BOS.
spoonraker
7th December 2007, 11:22 AM
Just write out the BOS with full retail on it, but put the price in pencil...then when he signs it erase the number and put in like $20

7th December 2007, 12:07 PM
that sound gay if they want make it out for what is worth why don't they just ask how much did you pay and just take you word
spoonraker
7th December 2007, 12:12 PM
How much did you buy it for and how much is the "actual value" of a salvaged title beater?

Just make one yourself, they dont take a second look at it.

And this is one reason why I don't mess with taking posession of cars without titles that I can't put my name on right away.
RabidB4C
7th December 2007, 02:18 PM
ok,
you have the title correct?
the title is in L's dads name or is it in the shop he bought it from?
If he never registered it, he can go in and get the fees waived since it was a
project & you won't have to pay any back fees.
If car still titled to the shop from where he bought it & has never been filled in
on the title to his name just get a bill of sale from that biz.
now if L's dad wrote in his name on the title but never got a new one issued
then he can go get a new title made in his name for $10.
Then he can sell it to you for $100 with a bill of sale & you can register it.
car isn't worth any more than 100 right....
pm me if you have any questions, I've gone threw this before

Yeah, you shouldnt need a bill of sale to switch the title over, just do that and then he can write you a bill of sale and you can register it. I have switched a title over here without a bill of sale.
Back in GI I have relatives that work for the county so everything is MUCH easier there.
JesterMX6
8th December 2007, 12:57 AM
yeah david i've switched over many titles without a BOS. its deffinitely not required
David
8th December 2007, 07:15 AM
The title is still in the business name. He signed it and L's dad signed it. neither dated it and no price listed on the title. So because L's dad's name is already on it the sale has to go to him and then to me.
so i have a BOS from her dad to me for $5 or something stuipd low. because it was given to me .
JesterMX6
8th December 2007, 08:31 AM
if they signed it already then just throw a date on there and that's that. you don't need a price anywhere on the title.
Coupelx
8th December 2007, 09:23 AM
you do not need a bill of sale to switch the title over. if you are not sure on what you need to fill out on it. GO TO THE DMV AND THEY WILL HELP YOU. they are very strict on improperly written titles and if it gets ****ed up your realy up **** creek.
RabidB4C
8th December 2007, 09:24 AM
1. have L's dad go get a new title in his name.
2. get a BOS from L's dad & take the new title with your name on it now,
title & reg in your name.
**you will need a BOS no matter what ... you should always include sellers address & signature ... phone # is always a good thing to in case they want to call the seller to
verify the sale amount.
David
8th December 2007, 04:47 PM
what about the sale's tax on the car that L's dad never paid? he never registered the car adn therefore never paid sales tax on it.
STOK5OH
8th December 2007, 05:11 PM
This is really simple....
Have Dad get it printed in his name, make a bill of sale too you for X amount,he signs in the seller part of the title, you sign in the buyer part. THEN...you have 30 days to register it,then you go to the DMV with your title, bill of sale and insurance on day 30. Then, you plate it.
Stir occasionaly,let cool and enjoy.

****, I'll just write you the bill of sale and you'll be done with it.
David
10th December 2007, 06:16 AM
ok.. so there is a twist and i'll see what the DMV says about it... So i'm already to go down to the DMV tomorrow and i look at the title, to see her dad accidently signed under the signer as well. So they might void the title. It gets better. It wasn't the body shop that said they'd go book value you on it. It was the DMV. I thought it was the body shop, becasue thats the information her mom gave me a few days back, but i didn't understand where she got the information.
She called the DMV because they tried to contact the body shop and found out they are no longer in business.

not an easy fix now that L's dad screwed up the title.
If it was in his name & he signed the buyer part then he could void the title.
now that he filled out that he is the buyer & never got issued a new title ... and the body shop is no longer in biz ... not sure your going to be able to fix this one.
Which body shop was it?

You guys are noobs from what I've read so far, i can't read anymore. The car was purchased wrecked, you pay tax on the purchase price. Put $50 on the bill of sale, if they ask, say you bought it wrecked and fixed it. Put $50 on what bill of sale you ask? ****ing forge one! Make some **** up, take it in, they won't know the difference.

Here's what happened on the Torino. Old guy buys car from old lady. Old guy gets BOS from old lady. Old guy never gets title in his name and never signs title. I buy car. Old guy gives me all the papers, including the BOS from the old lady. I forge old lady's signature on new BOS that states that old lady I never met sold me the Torino for $100. I go to get a title. They look the **** up, title looks as it should, they don't bat an eye, they give me plates, registration and temp title. Real title shows up in mail a week later. No problems, no hastle.

you need to read the newest problem.
The body shop
M&J Body Works
RabidB4C
10th December 2007, 08:05 PM
maybe you might have to file storage lein on the car & go that route to get a new title.
or contact the previous owners of M&J Body Works to help with this ordeal.
I'll have a discussion with friend who takes care of **** like this & find out if
theres a way to take care of this easily.
David
10th December 2007, 08:09 PM
i'm going to take it to the DMV tomorrow and see if they notice ( i know they are pretty anal so ya they will probably void it). If they notice i'll plead my case with them and see if they will point me in the right direction.
RabidB4C
10th December 2007, 08:20 PM
so wait ... the title still has "body shop" as owner ... & L's Dad filled out the seller's area
or the buyers area?
can you scan it & pm me the image ... I might have an idea so this can be fixed easily
JesterMX6
10th December 2007, 08:29 PM
i'm pretty sure everybody is wayyyyyyyyyyyy over complicating things.
RabidB4C
10th December 2007, 08:51 PM
when was the last time you fixed a ****ed up title george? it's a major pain in the ass...
I sold a car and put one darker # than the other ones & the DMV thought the dates were changed by the buyer ... I needed to get a new title because of this which was a pain in
itself because of the time spent dealing with it. Everytime someone has to go back to the DMV is a pain in the ass & costs that person $.
always read a title twice then fill it out ... this will save you money & headaches in the long run.

No, they are not. Most of the title I have transfered to me are ****ed up. They don't give two shits on something old. Also, NEVER EVER tell the DMV that the vehicle was given to you,m even if it was. You always "paid $25" for it.

They told me anything under $100 is considered a gift and when i went to register my Tbird having a 8 that was 2 dark meant i had to get a new title and do it all over again. So... with that kinda experiance and having only titled 3 cars pervious to this 1 of which required another title you can see where id' get the idea they are super anal. Its all been taken care of... $166 dollars later.
