IT's a good read and sure it expresses why HD DVD is still playing in this war... but the reality is the focus of that artical only covered the United States. The US is the only having this problem Other countries have already accepted Blu Ray as the next generation of disc. Also with Blu ray sales emerging on top after this holiday season and PS3 sales moving forward there isn't much the HD DVD camp can do. PS3 sales will bump even more when big titles like GT5 hit retail stores. Please see the thread about GT5.. Idk if GT5 will be even close to first day/week sales of Halo 3.. But GT is played all over the world... Halo is but not at the same level.

what i think is interesting is all the money that is being spent ont this war that blu ray is the obvious leader in... eventually the HD DVD camp is going to run out of money on this.

Microsoft was behind the Paramount buyout because they just want the war to continue for a long time. Then they want to look like the heroe when they perfect HD Downloads and will try to usher in a new era of home movies. In reality Microsoft wants neither to succeed.

I agree... Microsoft's touch on the HDDVD has been very shaddy. Sure they made the $200 drive for the 360 but that honestly couldn't have made a huge difference. I know HD downloads are something we can expect to replace disk. It just make sense. But i think the internet that we have isnt' going to be able to handle such large amounts of information.. until we catch up to japan i don't see and thats why i think we need this war to end.

Means thats what the PS3 does. DVD & Bluray combo.

just think of how good it would look in blu ray..

Exactly the same as it would on HD-DVD. They both store the same file encoded with the same codec and bitrate with the same sound compression. The only difference is the physical aspects of the disk which allow more/less storage and effect the price.

I bet if I played you two movies, both on HD-DVD, and told you one was blu-ray you would say the blu-ray looked better. Same thing if they were both blu-ray. You're so biased it's not even funny.

You are wrong. I'm not being sarcastic either... i'm dead serious there is a difference. beyond that $100 HDDVD player that lacks many features isn't going to look as nice as a blu ray player that can utilize all the information. Keep telling yourself its' all the same. $100 players with HD DVD's look exactly the same as a quality blu ray player using blu ray. For someoen who banks so much you should be able to afford both adn a brand new car while living on your own. Why don't you go buy both and have eveyrone over to watch it on your sweet HDTV and prove infront of everyone there is no difference.

It's chump change anyways right?

spoonraker

lol I haven't worked here for long enough for that to be chump change, give me a year and then maybe.

yes I know you were being sarcastic...

Anyway, exactly what do you mean by they are different? If you are only comparing image and sound quality, they are identical. They both have the same video and sound encoding as I mentioned before, they both have plenty of storage for the feature so it's not like one is compressed more than the other.

They both transmit the same signal, through the same cables....if you can prove me wrong go ahead.

If you don't have the equipment to utilize all the features used it won't be teh same. The cheap HD DVD players being sold are sold without many of the standard features on all Blu Ray player including the PS3.

spoonraker

Is that the fault of the disk?

I could hook a blu-ray player up to my shitty 27'' wal-mart stereo TV and then watch a regular DVD on a high def TV with full surround sound and the best signal processing units available, does that mean that DVD is better quality than blu-ray?

Also, what features exactly are you talking about?

You keep naming these features, but what are they?

When will someone be able to tell me why one disk and platform is better than the other. Why should I spend $500 for a base model player when I can buy a high-end different one for the same $500 or a base model for $100? What makes the program that reads the disks worth the premium?

That's all it comes down to really. Otherwise, they are simply hopped up CDs.

- my hddvd player was ****ing 49 bucks
- it outputs awesome quality 1080p. And looks ****ing awesome.
-has Dolby trueHd surround (I think that's what its called) and sounds awesome
-transformers FTW
-overall I couldnt careless a upcomvert DVD player costs more and this works for now
