Who do you like so far for the presidential election?
Name 1 or 2 good things the person would do for the country.
(dont be vague. i.e. if you think the person would 'keep us safe' explain how the person would keep us safe, and dont answer that question with somtehing like 'secure the boarders', instead , say how they would secure the boarders...ect.....)

Fred Thompson:
From everything I've seen and read he is a TRUE conservative and just what I believe the nation needs. The term Reagan republican gets tossed around way too much but I'd say he's as close as we could get. The Republican party needs a back bone to get back to where it once was and where it should be. Too many times our elected officials are making mistakes and trying to cope with the opposite party just to save face.
This is about the nation and our government and I think too many elected officials are worried about doing whats in the best interest of keeping in their party in power and saving their jobs than doing whats right and Fred seems to be a guy who is going to do what is in the best interest of the nation without being swayed one way or another because it's "Popluar"
To Quote Fred Directly:
Our government is outdated, inefficient, and wasteful. It is often unable to perform even the most basic tasks our citizens expect. It is no longer enough just to want limited government; the American people deserve more effective government. Given today’s challenges, we cannot afford—and shouldn’t accept—anything less than a nimble, effective, and efficient government that is able to focus its resources on the important issues facing our country. It must be able act on behalf of the American people and our national interests in a timely manner. The key to competent government is strong, committed leadership from the top. The key to good government is good people who are well-managed and put the national interest first. I am committed to:
Attracting and rewarding the best Americans to serve in government and ensuring they have the authority and resources needed to get the job done.
Fixing government accounting so tax dollars are properly spent and the American people know exactly what they are being spent on.
Improving government performance by making agencies accountable for accomplishing their missions on time and within budget.
Ensuring information technology systems are secure and that they give our government the capacity and effectiveness to get the job done.

he is a TRUE conservative
what is a true conservative? and what characteristics does he have that lead you to believe that he is, in fact a true conservative?
i thought he was for the war in iraq. correct me if im wrong.
and i just want to get this straight, this is the only reason you are voting for him right?
the rest of your post is pretty much just propaganda.
im not trying to be an ass or anything, i am trying to get actual characteristics of candidates, and not just what is wrong with everyone else.

I'll post more tonight when I'm not so busy but I was for the war in Iraq too... what's your point?
dave

I thought TRUE conservatives were against fighting wars and nation building.
i guess i will just have to wait until you define what being a TRUE conservative is. cause i dont think i know what it really means.

i am also for ron paul. for the reason you mentioned above, and it also seems that he is the only candidate that is truly smarter than i am. i believe he is the only one that will offer change.
and at this point, we need all the change we can get. kucinich is also one of my picks, for the same reasons.

kucinich isn't afraid to tell people his position, which I respect. Having just researched him a little, I can say I happen to disagree with virtually every thought in his head, but I'd take that over hilary or obama.
thompson is like kucinich in that respect, except I agree with him on 9/10 things.
dave
7th December 2007, 12:14 PM
can you give me an example of what you agree with? besides the normal ones, like abortion, gay marriage, and health care?
MadmaX
7th December 2007, 02:20 PM
He's in favor of a school voucher program.
Pledges to veto any immigration bill that involves amnesty.
Dislikes gay marriage, but allow states to decide.
And as you said, abortion and health care are big ones.

why is what other people do with their lives such a major concern of yours?
dont say cuz of god/church because that is why we have separation in the first place

10th December 2007, 08:40 AM
anyways...sorry to get off point...but this country is so fkd up that i think banning abortion and gay marriage is the least of our worries...and any candidate thats major issues are those are just playing the cards and not really going to do anything with this country

are you for or against the death penalty?
and I mentioned Thompson wants to let the states decide for themselves.
doesn't that mean I don't think that it's a big deal?
