I'm not sure how to describe this car. I guess the easiest way to say it is that I love to hate it. The car itself is probably one of the coolest cars I've ever driven for the money. Other parts of it has been a pain in the ass.

Background of the SVTF
For those that don't know, the 2002-2004 SVT Focus is a hopped up, limited production car with a Cosworth developed 170hp Zetec 2.0L combined with a nasty suspension. I say nasty because I can throw that ****er in to some serious curves without the car even sweating. The SVTF has an aluminum head with upgraded pistons and connecting rods (probably just as shitty as any other Ford), piston oil squirters, variable camshaft timing, dual stage intake manifold, and a tubular header. Ya 170hp doesn't sound like much, but it is compared to the regular weak ass 130hp Zetec. The car also has the same Getrag 6 speed transmission used in the Mini Cooper S. Recaro seats were also optioned in the 03-04 models. You probably never guessed all this **** was thrown into a little Focus, huh? :) Production IMO was somewhat limited, with this car being one of 1,184.

My girlfriend's Grand Prix was coming up on 100k miles, and was pretty much all but falling apart just like most all 100k mile GPs. She wanted a 05-06 GTO, but collage income shot that down pretty quick. On the way home from work one day a silver SVTF passed her and she thought it was pretty cool, so she went out and bought one from Woodhouse.

The final price was reasonable, but it came with some pretty retarded window tint. Take a close look at this picture.

Just one day after ownership, I took the car down to Chris at Auto Accents and had him peel off that homo tint and replace the sides with 20%. He did an awesome job, as always.

July 2007, Americruise weekend
The SVTF meets it's family. It has nothing to do with this thread, but I don't care.

Matt (NeverEnuff) and Dan (Dynosport) got to making fun of the Focus, so we decided to throw it on the rollers. I guessed it would put down 130ish whp, so I was surprised with the results. Final numbers were 140whp and 122wtq.

The front end starts to make a nasty clunking noise. I get pretty pissed because the car only has 59k miles. After getting the car up on a lift, it turns out that the sway bar end links went bad. It was only a $42 fix, but I feel that no suspension should be clunking before 60k miles. Once this was fixed, the car started leaking anti freeze. What the ****.

November x, 2007
I'm pretty pissed off about this anti freeze leak that I can't seem to find. Then out of nowhere the brake light starts to flicker. Ok, now I'm pissed. I add fluid, then the light comes on again a week later. I keep an eye on my driveway, and not a single drop of brake fluid is leaking on the ground. WHAT IS GOING ON?!! Well, my question was answered last week when the clutch pedal totally gave out. The clutch master cylinder failed, causing the brake fluid reservoir to drain out due to the master cylinder feeding off that same reservoir.

Now I want to light the car on fire, because I have a strong feeling that this isn't going to be cheap. Well, $24 dollars later I have a new reservoir. My friend Clint also found the stupid coolant leak while up on the lift. We haven't had time to put the new master cylinder in this week, but it should be back on the road soon enough.

December's plans
Amber has picked up a set of Blizzak tires, and will be mounting them onto her factory wheels. Once snow season is over, her regular tires will be going on these wheels. They are the 03-04 SVTF Euro Package wheels.

I like those little bastards.

Kinda surprised by the low production number you quoted. I feel like I see them pretty regularly.

Yeah that production number seems extremely low for the amount of them I've seen. Maybe 1,184 blue ones that year.

Oil squirters on the pistons? Were they planning on turbocharging it? Seems odd to have them on an NA motor.

I do too. There is a silver hatch that I see all the time up north.

I actually looked at a silver hatch before I bought my 03 Mustang, and a black 4 door before I bought my Cobra. I've always liked them.

You know me. I always dig up the most broken down production numbers I can find. That number is for the ones painted in Sonic Blue. Total production was 4,788.

I've always wondered why SVT never boosted the car. It seems like everything was set up for it IMO. Hell, Ford even boosted their Focus for the Europeans, but not us.

Cobra Commander

Cheap is now man!

Amber picked up hers for $8,800 with 51k. Can't beat that, besides a car that DOESN'T have little stupid **** breaking. :(

Those cars are fun to toss around. I had to try them out on PDI drives while at Anderson. :) Too bad the seats on the SVT Contour weren't available in the other SVT vehicles, I think they were the most comfortable.

Cobra Commander
29th November 2007, 02:39 PM
I agree. The SVT Contour seats are damn nice. Too bad those cars won't hold up to a beating, otherwise I would have one in my driveway by now. :(

That is a good question. I was just wondering that like 10 minutes ago. I wonder how much those HID xenon headlamps are. They can't be cheap.

EDIT: I just read that the wiring harness comes with the HID's when you buy them from Ford. It sounds like they would wire right in.

It is just a little O ring for the leak and a $23 dollar part for the master cylinder....... so far.

I really like this one. Price is too high though.

Meh, they did pretty much all that stuff to a Shadow 18 years ago, including Recaros and synthetic wheels. :cool1:

The HIDS should just snap in, but the euro ones from europe don't, you have to spilt some wires and get a new harness. I had the euro ones on mine.

they look like this.. i had the european grill too which deletes the turn signals in it
