View Full Version : Taller Block vs Add A Leaf

I plan on fixing the rear lift setup on my truck. Currently it has the factory block, and 2 1" lift blocks welded together sitting on top of the factory block. I see my options are either a taller single block (a vendor makes 1/4" plate steel blocks in the correct height) or I can use a 2" Long Add A Leaf in the leaf packs.

Blocks:

AAL:

Which setup, and why? I've heard taller blocks will cause wrapping and may not be the best with towing/offroading.

Why not just use 2" lift springs with the factory block?

I suppose I could. But if I can't get a set of those for a good price, which would be the best alternative?

Edited for Nickels' clarification. I'm not going to spend $600 on springs.

He would obviously get 2" lift springs...

That's why I asked, if the lift springs aren't available for a decent price, which is the best alternative.

i'll be adding a leaf to the rear of monica's jeep soonish with a spacer up front. seems simple enough. i'd go that route.

He is talking about leaf springs in the rear end George.

2" lift springs are available.

right...which is what i'm talking about in monica's cherokee....i'm doing an add a leaf lift to her jeep soon. leafs in the rear, spring spacers up front...i was saying that if cost is an issue, i'd do the add a leaf instead of blocks.

Blocks are cheaper . . . . . .

Do a 2" lift spring.

i know they're cheaper but i've ridden in a blazer (small one. s10 i think. idk how that compares) with blocks and then they switched to leafs and it was a huge difference in feel and overall quality. just felt much more solid. IMO adding a leaf is a good medium between a full out lift kit and cheapo blocks

AALs are actually cheaper compared to a 5" block (factory is 3"). Are you talking about Add A Leaf or an entire lift leaf pack such as THIS (http://www.topguncustomz.com/Store/Gen2ProdDisplay.php?iview=182339546)?

I would do an actual lift spring pack.

$$

I agree that they are the best option for safety and ride, but I really don't want to drop $600 for them.

Then don't lift the truck. It's that simple.

Already lifted ;) I'll just do add a leaf. ** the haters

New 2" lift spring pack is really the only good way to do it.

Blocks = axle wrap

AAL = shitty ****ing ride.

It won't be bad with the long AAL. Not any worse than a 2500

Shakle flip. Otherwise I agree with marty. + aal are a pain in the ass.

I don't think shackle flip works that well on this application.

Why not?

After looking into it more (I'd only seen a few references to it on the Ram forums), there really isn't a vendor that still makes a shackle flip kit. It also looks like I'd have to get a zero rate block to use with it since for the lift I want, I would only flip the rear.

So I guess it works, if you can find it/make it, but is one of the more costly solutions. I will probably just try to find a set of Offroad edition springs since one of my leaf packs is broken anyway. They have the same arch, but higher spring rate. Dodge used those to provide a factory 2" lift.

Build your own. Or adapt one from Offroad Design or DIY4X. It was far the best way to lift the rear of my truck.

I can't weld, so I can't fab anything.
