I purchased the car back in June 2007 after spending a few weeks searching for cars over on LS1Tech.com classifieds. It had ~355xx miles on the clock. However the shortblock was replaced and only 250 miles were put on it since the install. Its your run of the mill Z28, leather interior, monsoon sound system, 3 channel ABS (no traction control). In its previous life, it was Procharged so it didn't see the easiest life. However the previous owner did take good care of it (til he got reckless with the tuning) and I came in to swoop it off his hands. It was sold without the Procharger setup, leaving the built engine, supporting fuel and slightly upgraded drivetrain in it.

Cosmetically speaking, I have no immediate plans to change anything. The only thing I have done so far is paint the billet grille black instead of removing it altogether.

Here is the dyno sheet of the car 1 month after buying it. No mods were done.

So far the mods I have installed include

TSP Whisper lid w/ K&N Filter, Pro 5.0 Shifter, Rear swap with 4.10 gears, and UMI LCAs (lower control arms)

Dyno sheet after the mods, including a retune by Dan @ Dynosport

Future Plans-

Currently my priority with the car is working with the suspension. Too many LS1s running around with a buncha power and no way to put it to the ground. So, don't expect anything groundbreaking powerwise from my car. I'd like to be able to cut some good 60's next spring and get the car into the upper 12s. However, once I have what I want out of the way with rear suspension, I would like to run some spray through the car. The motor is built to handle it, so eventually I would like to work up to a 200 wet shot, potentially more depending on conditions.

Future Mods planned-
LCA relocation brackets
K-Member mounted tubular Torque Arm
Polyeurathane motor mounts.
****** LT headers
QA1 front shocks
Battery relocation
Wet Nitrous kit (doing research on companies, leaning towards Cold Fusion)

As each part comes in, I will update the work log accordingly with information and pics, as well as results from part installs and track/dyno numbers.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

I like the black grill all though i didn't mind the polish.

Parts of the car were repainted to repair scratches/ rock chips as far as i know.

You're on Aric haha. Although you should be faster, I don't think the car sees spray til summer.

I don't want to high jack your thread... but i'm referring to the overspray on your gas tank cover... it's goes all the way across...

I'd really like to see you get new wheels. such a good looking car but those wheels are an eye sore... I know you don't care much for the cosmets as you are more intrested in going fast... respectable.. just saying..

:Thumb: for a great work log that i'm sure we will see all kinds of good from.

That's not the gas tank. It's the well in the back, part of the unibody. Those places get painted, or at least overspray on them from the factory. Look at the floorboards & rear subframes, they also have the same overspray pattern.

I definitely want to see a worklog of this car, but like I have said about a lot of threads in this section, you should wait until you've done mods before posting a worklog. You always go on about how stock your car is when you race or at the dyno, and the only pics posted here are of you fixing your rear after you busted it.

Again...I love worklogs and your car, but this is a worklogs section not an announce your future work section. :)

so get to work fast and post pics of new stuff!

Thunder
26th November 2007, 11:11 AM
That logic makes no sense though. You want the work log after i've made extensive mods, when most work logs are started when you begin the modifying process. I didn't fix my busted rear... my rear was on its way out but I was still driving on it. I was modifying it with a better rear (4.10s and girdled cover). I also posted pics of my LCA install.

Most work logs I see, theres a beginning and to a point, an end. Considering I bought the car in June, and am starting my modifying, and its just about December, I felt it appropriate to start my work log.

As for me bragging about it being stock... Im talking stock power. Lotta cars can be fast with stock power modifying the chassis to hell and back. Just an FYI.

A true project car is never finished. Just wrecked or sold.

But on the wheels- Do your research and save up for some good ones, as in lighter than stock if at all possible. No sense slowing the car down just because others don't like your wheels.

That reminds me of the time that Hibs and maybe Drew argued the fact that 5.0's ran low/mid 13s right out of the box.

Thats why I said to a point. It ends because its no longer in your possession.

As for wheels, I have no desire to change them even for lighter weight counterparts. A good set of light weight wheels (such as welds or bogarts) are just too much in the $$$ to justify spending. The plan is to just paint the current wheels black leaving the outer lip a polished aluminum. Cliche, but I don't care, I'm doing what I like.

First off, Bogarts (unless I'm mistaken) aren't meant to be driven on the street, so I wouldn't want you to get those anyway. As for the blacked out stockers, please don't. I don't believe they have the proper lip to pull it off properly.

Of course I have been wrong before . . .

Can't get any worse than they are now, short of painting them green or pink.

86Shelby
28th November 2007, 12:03 PM
Neon green would have worked on the 3rd gen. You would have needed some crazy shaped neon sunglasses from the 80s to match though. Those stock 5 spoke 3rd gen rims look ok when painted neon green.....only if they are put on a green Olds Cutlass though. haha

What about red with a lip?

White with a lip?

Aftermarket rims?

Those rims will be pissed if you paint them black. They'll jump out and touch every curb possible once painted just to show thier resentment.

Some don't understand the pursuit of speed. They will cry that a car needs to look good too. Get wheels or paint this, or blahblahblah. I'll take the 1k I'd spend on wheels and get nitrous, and 500 i'd spend painting crap to get more suspension. Which ironically is the plan in place right now hahahaha.

i got the ws6 store short stick, but i need a short throw shifter for it work right, otherwise its too short...

any reason for the motor mounts?

Thunder
13th February 2008, 02:08 PM
well first off, stock rubber mounts suck, unles you have like less than 30k on your car. Even then, my car has been abused with a good chunk of power and track time in the past so Im sure they aren't any good. When I shift hard, things bang around. The shifter shakes a little at idle because the motor is. Shifting is sloppy and i'm finding out that my 3rd gear problem could be a direct correlation to worsening motor mounts.

I did my research and found out people see a big difference switching to poly motor mounts. Motor doesn't shake, shifter stays firmly still, shifting is noticably easier, etc. I figured it was the right thing to do since I already have a poly trans mount and poly lca bushings.

Then tie in some SFCs and the car will be pretty damn solid and should help with hooking up a bit more :woot:
