Yeah and I thought it was a really small amount like $200 or something, but some financial advisor dude told me it was $10k. That seems really high for
small claims, doesn't it?

Oh. Any way I can just represent myself? I can't really afford an attorney. Or is that a silly idea?

Chances are the attorney will write a few well worded letters for a small fee and your insurance company will submit without ever going to court.

What is the insurance company trying to pull on you anyway?

If its small claims court, its like judge judy. Its a bench trial with no lawyers. There will be no lawyer present when talking to the judge with the defendant, but you can get legal advice beforehand and like said before, they can write a letter to the company for you to try to get money without going to court.

And if you do file a small claims court claim onto them, I wouldn't bet on them insuring you further so I would look at new companies to get insurance with.
