View Full Version : Registration year wrong on citations

So I decided to stop through Missouri valley on my way back to SD and an Iowa state patrol stopped me just because of tint and license plate. I wasn't speeding or doing anything wrong.

Cop was a **** and gave me 70$ citation for no front plate (was coming from MAM), 80$ for window tint (he had a tint meter), and warning for my license plate frame "covering" my registration sticker in the back. Pretty ridiculous. As many times as I've been pulled over I've never had a cop even mention my tint. I was under the impression it was legal.

ANYWAYS, On all of the citations under the registration year, it says 1920. Obviously thats wrong.

Could these be dropped if the wrong information is on the citations?

Would definitely be happy not to dish up 150$ just because some cop decided to be a ****.

Go to court, plead not guilty. When they ask you if you drive a 1920 blah blah blah say No. See how it turns out

Only if they are being nice. But they can write a ticket for it. I was ticketed by a state patrol, would have cost me cost to a hundred. But the county attorney excused it for me.

I just keep my front plate on the floor in the back, and when I get pulled over I just pull it out to show them.. Havent had any trouble yet.. I also heard somewhere that if your car doesnt come stock with a place to mount it, that you dont have to?? Any truth to this?? Because that could be a legitimate excuse to use Ryan

Yeah I could, wish I didn't have to go to freakin Missouri valley or wherever to go to court.

Normally yeah...

After he gave me the tickets I got pretty upset with him and he told me I was lucky because he could have given me a ticket for the registration sticker being blocked and 80$ per window for tint. :rolleye:

This was my "covered" registration sticker..

No truth to it at all. NE requires a front plate regardless.

Yeah, i usually have the plate in my trunk but took everything out for the track.

Not sure about not having to have it if there no stock place. Although, now that I think about it, he did ask how a front plate was mounted because he saw no holes or bracket. So maybe?

I have South Dakota plates...

Which is probably why LPD never does anything, but state patrol has a hayday with it.

Just play dumb and act like you tried putting it on, but couldnt find a proper mounting location.. Maybe even provide a picture of the front of your car to show the judge.. Dont know if it will work, but it wont hurt to try

that's up to the judge, every cop I talked to about it said its up to the owner of the vehicle to find a way to mount it. One of them even suggested drilling holes in the bumper.

tint laws apply to the state you are in, not where you are registered.

If the car doesn't come with a license plate holder/bracket/whatever it doesn't matter, gotta find a way :dunno:
