I am sure we can all go into application and seperate this more. I just thought it would be fun. I guess I like full sized chevies for a few reasons. First I remember when my dad bought his 79 c15 new. I drove it to high school and had a lot of good memories in it. I like the fact they are cheap since just about every farmer owned one and there are still alot out in the windbreaks, or even still being used. They rust but not really worse than any thing else of the same vintage. Chevy built over a million of these trucks. A 3/4 ton is pretty strong right off the bat and most have at least 4.11s. The transmissions and transfercases are pretty strong. Lift kits are cheap. The 2 biggest disadvantages are the size at tuttle in the trees and the fact that 90% are carbs so they can cause problems on hills. My opinion is a 3/4 ton drivetrained blazer is pretty tough to beat.

I've been watching 3/4 ton Blazer CUCV's sell off govliquidations.com for $1200-1500 for the past few weeks. typically 60-80k miles. and it's a diesel.

^ military blazers are just 1/2 tons don't get caught. The only the trucks are hd.

why are they listed as 3/4? (the pickups are 5/4)

Hillbilly

Cause they are dumb, they are all 10 bolts with 3.08s and gov locks. I know the trucks are rated at 5/4 but its basically the same as my k30 with better gears and a factory detriot.

I guess I just don't see why jeeps are so popular. Care to elaborate as to there greatness?

I liked my Wagoneer a lot. I can't put my finger on why. Really miss it.
Bad mileage. Poor handling. Slow. Leaky. Rusty.

i dunno.

I've always liked the older chevy trucks. It sure would be nice to have the stock axles of a 3/4 ton chebby.

I got hooked on the 80s Toyotas just because of their looks when I initially got into 4X4s. I also like the feel of having a real small agile 4X4, even if it's a pain in the ass come any big ledges. I'm also typically a sucker for anything unique/odd. That's why I got the Suzuki.

Believe it or not but usually at Tuttle we are the odd ones with Full sized chevies.

That's probably because first and foremost chebbys are used as "work trucks", Jeeps are pretty much solely marketed as a "off road vehicle", yes that's in quotes.

Silly Jeeps.

It just makes me laugh when they try from 50 different angles and we pick the hard line and drive right up. I really like that mine is cheap and beat so I can drive it like I do. I see guys with 30k vehicles down there and I don't get it.

I definitely don't get that. A pretty, expensive, 4X4 is stupid.

A beat to **** 3k total investment K30 is far more capable just from the fact that I don't freak over scratches.

i had a subaru XT that was 4 x 4. It had pneumatic suspension for sweet off roading adventures. And a turbo to help it break into the three digit category for hp.
I think it was the best.

I'm with Hillbilly on the 73-87 chevys. That's all we have ever had. In fact, my dad still daily drives his 82 k10 that he bought brand new.

I personally think the jeeps just have what is needed, the v8 wranglers (personally my favorites are cj's with extended front ends.

I guess I don't see how it can be compared though. I don't think in the end there is a way to prove one vehicle is so much better than another. I'm just a Jeep person though.

But I love all your guys hill billy trucks. I just didn't care enough about offroading to do more the my heep.

Idk, I just really like mine. I am starting to see the light that life isn't all about domestics and chevies. I wonder if I am sick.

I think some of the reasons they are popular are they are fairly easy to build, come with a solid front axle (your chevy might too, dunno when they started IFS), coil spring suspension on all four corners, can comfortably fit 4-5 adults on the way to the trail, have the Jeep history to persuade people, modifications are fairly easy and plentiful (you can cut fenders to fit bigger tires too).

Hillbilly

Mine all have straight axles, they are leaves but articulate OK, blazers hall 4-5 and a sub will haul 8. Mine may even get a seat in the box sometime this summer. I am not saying your wrong about ease of mods but seriously a chevy can't get much more simple stupid. The problem I have with the jeep history is that its based on some great things but look at the pos ones they have built. Hell I would put a 305/350/208/10b/10b mid 80s blazer against any jeep 70-90s for toughness and capabilty.
