I am pretty sure they will want to much money, I mean yeah I can buy one online but they are stupid over priced. I am not looking for anything fancy just a basic bumper with a tire carrier.

off topic, I bought a new front axle.

Jeep time.

I could probably get you hooked up with 25% off at rockhard4x4parts.com, but it would still be pretty expensive.

??? As in Rob Carpenter? If so, some of you guys that live on Duxhall know his son Seth, right? Rob could definitely build you something for a lot cheaper you would buy off the net. :Thumb:

Yep, talk to Seth and see if his dad has time. That will be the cheapest/best way.

Seth Can do it. He just built his rock sliders. Just tell him how you want it done and he can do it.

I will talk to him, I definitely don't need something to fancy so I can't imagine it would cost as much as the real nice ones that you buy offline.

Stole some pictures off of rockhard 4x4 to post up what I am looking for

The overall portion that holds the tire is pretty basic, can't imagine someone who knows what they are doing couldn't do it fairly fast/cheap

http://www.rockhard4x4parts.com/images/XJ-REAR/010_10.jpg

The lower part of the bumper is where I think most of the cost comes from, you can see the rockhard4x4's bumper in this picture

http://www.rockhard4x4parts.com/images/XJ-REAR/012_12.jpg

and that is where I don't need anything fancy. I could live with just a straight bumper, something like this....

How hard would it be to build a front bumper like this?

Remember the one Shane had on his 4 door jeep? His dad built that and Seth thought he might have most of the parts to build another one.

I don't remember it but I like this idea, I need to find out how much he wants.

I might if I bust my stock tail lights out but since I don't get to crazy wheeling who knows if that happens.

i've just always wanted somethign simulating traffic lights for tail lights

i was going to suggest an iron scorpion front bumper kit but after searching they don't exist anymore. Incase you don't know what i'm talking about it was a pre-cut kit that just needed to be welded together, here's a pic.

I plan on buying a front bumper just b/c for $300 you can buy a decent winch bumper. It is just to bad you can't buy a $300 rear bumper b/c it uses not much more material but costs 3 times as much.

So you wanna keep this thing now? Just 2 weeks ago you wanted to sell it.

I decided I can not live without some form of 4wd truck/suv so time to make it cooler.

This might be do able cheap. All you would need to is get a tire carrier fabbed.

^^ this. i value my rear view mirror too much.

CJ, why not just a roof mount?

He already doesn't have a rear view mirror IIRC

you are correct

C.J.
13th May 2010, 04:42 PM
I value my mirrors alot but I don't have one in the jeep so I've just gotten used to using my side mirrors. I don't want the weight of a spare on my roof bc it increases the center of gravity more than I want. The rear tire carrier doesn't need to have it up so high as in that picture but wouldn't mind having a gas can holder as well.

Yeah I've met a couple of you guys before but couldn't remember your forum names. Rob is pretty much the wheeling Godfather that got most of us guys into it years ago, and has built some pretty cool rigs/bumpers/roll cages. For those that haven't seen his buggy, this is it with Seth in the passengers seat-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/huskerjeep/Misc/scan0006-1.jpg

...and another one of Seth in Robs old TJ.

Seriously though, call him up and I doubt that he turns down a chance to make some coin.

Everything Rob does, i think is to cheap. He could be making some serious cash if he got his name out there a little more.

HuskerJeep
13th May 2010, 07:20 PM
Yep. I have sent quite a few guys his way and have never heard a bad thing about his work and his pricing. The dude has wheeled a ton of places, been a spotter in the UROC competitions, and seen enough bad ass rigs during that time to know how to build some bad ass stuff.

I will get a hold of Seth/his dad this weekend. Or Brian maybe you could check with him?

Lt4TransAm
13th May 2010, 07:33 PM
You would have to bring it over there and explain what you want so he could tell you how much tubing you will need.

C.J.

Sounds good to me, maybe do that tomorrow if I can get ahold of Seth.

super badass I know!

Its OK. At least it makes all the power of a ant hill so it won't get broken.

Yeah I know but it will be fine for me, whenever we get a chance to actually go wheeling you will see I don't use much of the skinny pedal when attempting an obstacle.

C.J.

Here is another pretty basic tire carrier bumper. I have no idea how much materials cost but if someone here does, how much are we talking for materials?

You will see that I tend to have a different approch. If you can't make it, hit it harder.

buy a 1 ton.

C.J.
17th May 2010, 04:49 PM
I don't have fabrication skills or tools to put it in there. Otherwise I would buy axles.

Hillbilly
18th May 2010, 07:44 AM
I didn't say put them in a jeep I said buy a 1 ton. You go with me and I promise even if you don't agree with how I drive you will be amazed at two things. First I you have a complete pos and aren't worried about body damage you can climb some amazing ****. Second if you have power and a pretty bullet proof drivetrain you can bounce/throttle through things that people can't get though. I can buy a whole truck body for a little of nothing.
