'98 LS1 Sprint Car??

I'll throw this up for my friend who is building this as advertisement for his business.

From what I can tell he's building this one and has another one lined up to build already. Everything has a price, so it is for sale for the right amount... 20K+.

Unfortunately I think the crossmember and motor mounts are going to need to be rebuilt so the engine will be removable.

As of now it's all stock except for a Mutha Thumper cam and the headers.

motor has only 8k on it. we just installed a thumper cam, 25% underdrive, and some new valve springs and pushrods. ought to move pretty good with the 6.30 rear's or whatever hes running

Got the wing covered and is picking it up in the morning. Then it's getting wrapped for advertising. Aside from the LS1/trans and DOT tires it is 100% sprint parts.

Tried rolling the car out of the garage the other day and couldn't push it with the Hoosiers on the rear. I'm thinking it wont see much of the streets. I want to take it to the track first:ls1:

Aside from that, just piecing the small stuff together until it's ready for powder coating.

Kit car... they don't need to know what it really is. I believe you just have to show reciepts for parts to prove that majority of vehicle is not stolen.

That is correct. The owner talked with the local sheriff's department and the county courthouse to find out what had to be done before he started this just to make sure it can be done before he spends a bunch of money on something he can't even drive. apparently theres not many hoops to jump through to get it licensed. now insurance....not sure about that one.

Made quite a bit of progress today. Not sure of any new pics yet, but we got:
*Motor/trans dropped in
*Completely tore down the wire harness - removed anything not used (LS1 harness is way to long for a spring car)
*Headers mounted
*Seat installed
*Dash mocked up

As soon as I make it back out to finish wiring, I think it should be waiting on me for it's maiden-voyage.

Indeed I plan to rock it on O street with the wing and the drag strip, and if I get a chance maybe push start some cars at Eagle on saturday nights. If all goes well we should be firing it up by the 2nd weekend of june! Can't wait to smell that burning rubber! Need to get the blinkers and lights on it before the sheriff will come over and do the motor vehicle inspection. Yes indeed I know that's the gay part but my hands are tied on that one! After that passes I have to apply to the state for a title which takes about 2 weeks. Then I can get is liscensed and try to get some insurance.

hmm its basically like a dragster. or an altered.. it should hook-up. deffinately at the track. with the extra weight of the tubing and tranny it should have more weight transfer.. but wont know till you try it

Tyler, Andrew, thanks a ton for helping me get that thing fired up! I got it running and it'll need a little of tuning to get it to smooth out but it sounds great! It does turn just fine contrary to what a lot of people thought, I took it around the little circle at my house twice, I put in D2 the 2nd time in front of my house pointed toward the circle and stood on it, It scared me!!! If I didn't have the front end off the ground, it was really close. I can't wait to get it running better and take it out on the highway and see what happens! Now I can finally relax and sleep well knowing it runs, turns and so far the drive line hasn't broke, It's not a tested setup for the rear end and drive line, so I was a little nervous.:rofl:

I'm taking a camera down next week(work always gets in the way). It'll be low quality, but we'll snap lots of pics and get some videos.
Could feel it a bit at idle when I was in the house when it first fired. Adam conveniently added some turn downs/outs in front of the rears to help with smoke evacuation.

Just need to work out that issue with the front brakes as well.

I better spill it before he gets on here. Latest news is he is trying to fit a second seat(removable) in it. It'll look like rabbits, at least no nuts touching like a bike.

It would be so tight there would be no comfort. I had my Wife in the back seat and put myself in front in another seat and well lets just say it's TIGHT!! So I think I'm going to postpone that one for the next car.
Good news I did confirm that the brakes are all working well now. No more fuel or power steering leaks, however the positive battery cable was touching the U-joint. I found that out when I was about 1/2 a mile from home driving it tonight. Nothing a little black tape won't fix. Can't wait to get the silicon tubing for the MAF sensor and rewire in the O2 sensors so we can tune it! :ls1kingxk8:

We'll get it done. The wiring was sort of thrown together in the rear, so you better start planning some more mounts for relays/wires.

Well the silicon tubing came in today, so just need the O2 sensors hooked up and should be ready to tune!

Looks way better than when I saw it last. Did getting the MAF and filter help it at idle at all?

What are the requirements. To get a title and street legal in Nebraska?

1st you have to pass a vehicle inspection for an assembled motor vehicle from the county sheriff to apply for an assigned VIN#.
2nd send that paperwork to the DMV and proof of ownership to get a VIN# assigned.
3rd when you get the VIN# you have to sign an affidavit proving you placed the VIN in the correct spot.
4th Go to the county and show them all the above paper work plus your insurance and they will issue a title and you can get your plates.

The tires have a DOT# on them, I didn't have a mirror or windshield on at the time but they weren't to worried about it. I will be installing a windshield and a mirror both of which I have just need to put them on. I don't have plans for a speedometer, and don't think I have to either, nothing in the state statutes about that one.

No T didn't get the firewall or catch can on the overflow for the radiator done yet but it's on the list. We'll see about getting some dyno time soon, not sure what all will be happening this week but it's a possibility could get it to the dyno.

Yep not to bad so far, have to correct what I said about the speedometer- today at the DMV they said I must have an odometer on any vehicle made in the last 10 years so I have to put in an odometer to get my VIN. I'll keep you posted on any other problems I run into.

Got off the phone with him a bit ago. Not even dyno tuned and it went sideways going into 2nd and he let off. I'm sure there's more to the story than was told. It's almost worth the work and I havn't even touched the seat.

I was following him yesterday and the rearend twists enough to drop the Winters gear housing about 2". I'm guessing it about touches the ground when 2nd gear hits.

To drive it on the street I had to run straight up tires on it. I also think it looks good without the wing on it, and for sure I will be driving it with and without the wing on it. Should be taking the car to revolution wraps tomorrow so they can get something designed for it, I can't wait to get some color on it and see what it looks like. :D

How much slower is it than the sprint cars? Don't they have like 500hp+ or is that like the world of outlaws sprint cars only?

Tim. The 360's have 700ish. The 410's (outlaws) have around 900. I got a 360 for sale:)

The outlaws aren't the only people running 410's, but ya sprint cars have a **** ton of HP. Theirs a reason the motors are 30k-50k.

Everyday weekends are eagle at 360's usually IIRC, Knoxville does alot more 410's then 360s IIRC as well.

Actually 360's are 30-50K$ 410's go as high as 80K$ and need freshened after only a few nights. A 360 can go a Full season(average # of nights) some guys race 60 shows a year. They would need freshened earlier.

I went out for a little drive tonight to Wilber and back. Got most of the way back and a county cop pulled me over. As soon as we got stopped and he saw my license plates he started apologizing. He said someone called in and reported a race car on the highway. He said as soon as he saw my plates he figured I was legal. So I showed him my registration and insurance and then he wanted to know all about it.

I hope all of my stops will be as easy as the first few have been.:lol:

I think I should start a log to get the miles per stop by the cops. To date 2 stops only 104 miles on the car.

Word in the inter-office mail is... Heads and cam should be ready for installation this weekend. I don't know exactly, but I think it was something in the area of a 100-130 gain.

Wants to have it done and tuned for Super Nationals/Americruise.

i stopped by yesterday and checked this out again. AFR heads and a nice G5x4 cam for this toy. new rear was put in as well as a few more mods to the suspension. his goal is 450-500 to the ground....and he wants the front wheels to come off just so he can fab up some sweet as wheelie bars
