Oil pump failure in the fall of 2005. It's all been a snowball since.

No oil pressure is bad. The intermediate shaft gear that drives it looked just as hourglass shaped.

Never good when there are peices of bearing material in the pan this big.

Rebuilt the 195k mile shortlbock. This one is just an inspect & measure, rering & new bearing job. Look closely and you'll see the .004" of cylinder taper.

ARP fasteners all around.

Already got that covered, John. I made these this winter and they're on the way to Texas to be powdercoated, along with the ported intake. For now I'm using stock ones that have been painted- no longer flaky and nasty like the ones above.

One thing that consumed a lot of time and thinking was finding a repair for the rocker arms on the car. The rollers had pitted and scored the cams pretty badly and needed to be replaced. Apparently INA/Lotus/Chrysler decided to make the rocker arms very spendy. Performance Dodge wanted nearly $300 each. No typo. I needed a minimum of 6, hmm, for nearly 2 grand I would expect some seriously bad-ass aftermarket valve train equipment not just stock Dodge replacement parts. So, working with Chad at The Shop and Jack at TMCO, we came up with a solution I think will work. We started off doing an autopsy on one of my bad 16V rockers and a standard 8V rocker. Rollers are the same diameter, same width, the pins are the same diameter....

After 4 or 5 trial runs of different sizes we ended up with these pieces. The pins are made of heat treated 4140 steel. The heat treating ruined the nice machined finish on them. So I spent roughly 1.5 hours on each one polishing them to mirror finish and only took off .0002-3" material on each one. The clips were tack welded in place.

http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/photopost/data/500/medium/IMG_6689.JPG

These are pics of the first run that worked size-wise. It's just stainelss steel; which unfortumately is not suitable at all for a bearing surface, even after hardening. That sucks since the 4140 is more expensive.

All said and done, these new pins along with harvesting rollers and needle bearings from brand new 8V rocker assemblies I'm back in business for now. We'll see how these look periodically. Hopefully everything will stay together real nice.

I wish I would have taken a pic of my wanna-be lathe that I did the polishing work on as I found it amusing. Basically take your drill and ziptie it to a sawhorse. It was horrible trying to get the pins straight in the chuck; they always wanted to be offcenter, I finally settled for them being off by .003".

Looks like the engine is coming back out. There is/was a knock in the valve train. Couldn't find anything wrong. Everything looked just peachy. I popped the exhaust cam out since that's where the noise seemed to be. The middle 3 journals are trashed. A 3 year-old could draw a line straighter than those journals are. No fingernail needed to feel the damage, all you need is a fingertip. I'm scared to take the head off and find out that it's trashed. I worked and waited 2 years to drive this car. After 3 weeks it's all gone. I'm going to the liquor store now.

Looks like this will turn into an actual work log, not just a catch-up to the end of my build.

Yes, there was a second gunman and the gov't was involved.

Time travel is not possible since the molecules that make you or the machine were in different places at that different point in time and cannot be in two places at once. ** you Doc Brown!

The people that want info from customer service surveys only do it to make themselves look busy and justify thier employment.

Francis Pharcellus Chruch recieved sexual favors by Virginia's mom(a MILF mind you) to lie to the world in his famous editorial.

You cannot have faith without science, just as you cannot have science without faith.

The most relevant is that something wasn't shaped correctly and that caused the damage.

1. True, and anyone who doubts it has way too much faith in our government. Hell, the former director of the CIA even released all the evidence shortly before he died.

2. I thought the theory was that two molocules could not occupy the same place at the same time, not two places at two times.

3. Corporate America in a nutshell.

4. Don't know who either of those are, but again, America in a nutshell.

5. Finally someone gets it.

6. Whatever you do, don't give up. We'll figure it out one way or another.
