Ok, I am the definition of n00b when it comes to Forced Induction, or cars at that matter, But I'd like to learn the best way possible.
I, like all car lovers, want more power. Well, I have two questions about the oh so popular LS1 and its not so popular relationship with Turbos.
1. I have about 105k Miles on the LS1, mostly highway, rarely beat, never raced ( to my knowledge), only a couple burnouts, barely enough to leave marks, just to get attention :drivin:. The motor runs great (aside a bad O2 sensor in the exhaust), doesn't smoke, doesnt miss, starts right off, never had a problem. Will it handle the pressure of a Turbo in it's condition? Or is a forged steel rebuild needed. If you think it'll be fine, what do you suggest for a PSI Range?
2. Where Can I find information on Types, brands, and basic knowledge of Turbos, and turbo kits? Stupid questions like why are some found near the motor, and others near the rearend ( on exhaust). Or would It be too much of a hassel to ask on SCR?
And to answer your question, yes, I am looking to turbo the camaro someday. Hopefully by next year or so. This way, I have plenty of time to save some $$$, and learn how these two (LS1 & Turbo ) can go together to maximize performance.
Help is greatly appreciated, Hazing is... Not so appreciated, but it will happen.
Thanks Guys N Gals.

True. New job, living at home... Won't take long to pay it off. Providing I don't buy a PS3, and a **** load of games for my Wii and future 360. :woot:

I dunno if i'd go straight into a turbo with everything being stock besides your headlights. Look into cams, intake, exhaust. Maybe turbo in the far far future.

hahaha Doesn't matter what you drive. If you know your mechanics, who gives a sh*t. Nevertheless, Exhaust is going to be hard, I can't find anyone to do it, and well, doing it myself is going to be like walking on water. An intake, is nearly $1,000 itself. And as for a cam, well, I don't know what kind to put in, seeing how it is an automatic. But yep. Its all future mods I hope to acheive.

ls1tech estimated $10,000 - $15,000 to safely Turbo it. Thats with every part suggested to help the car run over 500RWHP+.... So.... $15,000 for 200+ HP? Hel yea. But thats over the value of this car by a long shot. Wow...

You buy the exhaust you want, and I can get a buddy to weld it up with hangers and all easy for yea. Prices,, I dont know.
Intake sure it'll cost alot... Do you know how much a turbo, wiring, piping, etc is going to cost?
Didn't know it was an auto, but get a shift kit. And getting a cam won't necessarily matter if it is a manual, auto, or a foot powered stone car.

Every shop I go to say the car is not made right fr true dual, but I have pictures of several 98' camaros with true dual, its just the mufflers that are at a very small list. Meaning, only a few will actually fit nicely.
A kit I'm going to esitmate is roughly $4,500 - $6,000. And yes its an automatic, sadly... But It would need a Stall Converter for a big cam, and that'd make driving.... difficult.

shift kiting is also a good idea.
I doubt it'd even cost 4500 to get a back exhaust. Get a decent muffler and let someone else run your piping.

I meant $4,500 for the Turbo kit... Maybe... $300 for exhaust.

Yeah 4500 for a turbo sounds better...

Of course... It doesn't sound worth it, but when your muscle car is roaring down the street shooting a whistle at every shift... Yah kinda think to yourself " Megasiccc"

holy **** now you sound like the under...
Yeah you'll be saying that now, but when your intake isn't good enough, when your exhaust won't handle it, and your 106k mile block wants to kill you. Yeah you won't say it much longer.

He doesn't need a new intake manifold...
I'd build up the trans and rear end before boost, especially if you want traction ever. A stall would be nice as well (think launching in boost).
