Are there any spots these are prone to developing oil leaks? I know someone with one that said it is leaking oil. I told them I would take a look at it. Just wondering where is a good place to start if it happens to be something common. My offer to help ends prior to the oil pan and rear valve cover I think though, lol.

the rear valve cover is prolly easier than the front one

Umm ... I don't hear much about GPs leaking oil ... I've never had that problem in either of mine so far. I'll look at ClubGP and see if much is said there.

Looks like places to check are ...
Valve covers (front & rear)
Intake Manifold Gaskets
Lower EGR Bolt (sometimes can leak oil)
Oh ... and if it's the rear valve cover, on a 98 I don't think you have to remove anything to get the valve cover off. You can just unhook the top dog bones/motor mounts, and rock the engine forward. Easiest way to do that is push the car back and lock the e-brake when the engine is titled forward. Then you've got plenty of hand room in the back. It's really pretty easy.

Really? I assumed that to be a pain in the ass. Good to know it isn't if that's where it's leaking from. I think I might be checking it out Thursday.

Yes...the back one is actually easier than the front. We actually did it without moving anything on my car.....very carefully though lol

What's the story on the dye? How's it work? Do you pout it in the oil?

You dump a small amount of the dye into the oil and run the car for a bit. (depending on how bad of a leak). Then take a UV light and look for the glowing oil. It works pretty good. When there's oil all over, it really helps pinpoint where it's coming from.
I picked the dye up at O'Reilly (less than $10).

I guarantee there is going to be oil all over. I think it's been leaking for a while and I don't think the car ever gets washed.

That's sad to hear.

Looks like I might not be dealing with this at all after all.
