View Full Version : How do speed traps protect and serve the public?

I was driving back to school from my house for lunch, thinking about how Tuesdays appear to be traffic control days because I always see the most police on tuesdays. Then I see a little man in a yellow vest running out in front of me. I get a ticket for 52 in a 40. I don't understand how I was putting anyone in risk southbound on 14th north of the library only going 12 over. The only person in sight was the officer running into oncoming traffic. How is the officer protecting and serving if he is running in front of cars? I am positive there are things the police could do that would be a better use of time and tax payer money.

In addition, has anyone noticed that the police never turn their engines off? Both of the police cruisers had their engines running wile they were standing outside wearing sweatshirts. It's 50 degrees out! They don't need to heat their cars!

And to top it all of, going north on the same stretch of road after school, a state trooper passes me going at least 5 over. I could have tried to match his speed but I have no desire to get two speeding tickets in the same day.

they leave their engines out even when its a fair 62 degrees outside with a slight overcast. know why? its so if someone runs their car is running already and they can run in and take off.

oh and STOP BREAKING THE LAW ASSHOLE

Ya those 2 extra seconds it takes to start it, are 2 life saving seconds.

MadmaX
2nd March 2010, 05:21 PM
why wouldn't you leave them running? it's not like they pay for their own gas, and the cars are sold before they're old enough for the consequences to catch up.

i didn't say it was a valid excuse. thats just the excuse i've heard from quite a few officers.

^this is what I heard

yeah, cuz there's so many of them in Lincoln ****ing Nebraska

to the OP: it keeps idiots from flying around when they shouldn't be, there's usually no need to be going much above the speed limit, and in most parts of town doing the speed limit will get you to where you're going just as fast as speeding since a lot of the lights are synched together.

Uh, probably just downtown does that.

reminds me of justin kelly and friends holding signs down the street from millard north with signs that said "speed trap ahead" i think they got in trouble

i dont drive more than 5 over, and have never gotten a ticket...

I usually have to speed like a mother ****er to hit green lights. They often seem to be synched to make you stop at every one.

when i was in highschool i discovered it was possible to get from about 56th and calvert (ball fields) to 14th and Old chenny in about 7 mins during the hours of 11-12. Just go stupid ****ing fast... if you're under 80 you aren't going fast enough.. the lights always turned green...

that being said....

The purpose of traffic cops is to enforce the law... THe law is clearly visable on the little white signs. IF no one enforced the law, no one would follow it and the number of accidents/deaths would increase dramatically. By enforcing the law they provide safer streets and this is the public service...

You find the lil yellow vest guys on big streets for a couple reasons... They are more likely to find speeders on fast moving streets than slower ones... Faster streets usually have a longer line of sight increasing the time they have to clock you, make a decision to ticket you and then safely walk out infront of you to make the stop... Also more traffic goes down the faster streets for that reason and this increases the odds that they will find speeders... This becomes a more effective way of using tax payer dollars. Additionally, the car consumes less gas at idel than driving all around lincoln hunting for speeders.

However, leaving teh car running for the purpose of heat or saving 2 seconds is a retarded reason and waste of money... however, powering everything in their car probably requires the alt, thus it's a required expense and not a waste of money...

I even remember hearing on the blaze yesterday on my way home from work LPD announced all the places they had stops like they do EVERYDAY.... they also mentioned they had more points yesterday than most days because as the weather gets nicer, the lead foots come out.

Exactly. People tend to notice places to shop more when stopped. The ol' free all you can eat salty snacks at the bar gimmick .

On the way to work, I find that speeding down Cornhusker is necessary to make the lights, though I almost always have to stop at 48th, regardless of speed. I usually have to stop at the the Havelock, 48th, 44th, Adams, 33rd, 27th and 10th St lights on the way home. ****ing awesome.
Well now I take the new State Fair whatchacall road, so I bypass the 27th and 10th St lights and stop at the 14th St (or whatever it's called) light instead.

I live .9 miles from Super Saver on south 56th and it usually takes me at least 10 minutes to get there because of 2 long ass lights. Pain in the ass.

as far as lights go... down town at 6:20am... you have to speed down 10th street (about 10mph over) from capital parkway to O street to make the lights if you turn off capital... only if i'm running late do i speed through those lights.. otherwise i'm guaranteed to get stopped at hte first light if i'm doing the speed limit...

I've gotten so used the timing of the lights on my way to work that i noticed one day when they were out of sync and proceeded to make my old man complaint email to the city to fix that damn light that got me out of sync and cost me 4 more lights on my way to work. a week later i was back in sync.

Lincoln's grid and traffic light arrangements are some of the worst I've driven in. The city-state is in the business of making money. Tickets equal revenue, there's the deal. Wanna roll the dice and speed, you may end up paying the house.

Hahaha I know exactly what you're talking about. If you don't hit that 10th street light right as it turns green (or before), you're screwed and get stopped by the next three lights guaranteed.

Most of the lincoln cops are washed up high school football players.

Of the 4 cops I know personally, only 1 is a washed up footballer. Haha

Ive never been ticketed in lincoln...ever

you havent dealt with GIPD, obviously.

anyways, im pretty sure they leave their cars running to keep the battery charged up, especially with all the electronics they run these days. I dont believe they are in a hurry to get in their cars and chase, i blew thru one of those speed traps on west O once doin nearly 90 and they didnt step toward the street or anything, just watched me go by with the gun still pointed down the street. then again i didnt hit the brakes or anything, i figured if im going to get a ticket for going that fast, i might as well go that fast.
