Well **** it I don't care anymore and I want a place to log the build up on my car and get peoples feed back.
Ill just start at the beginning agian!!!

Well as you know I finally picked up my dream car(yes I'm very weird) a couple months ago its a 89 colt. I bought it with no motor, no trans. Its a decently clean shell with no rust and a full interior which is exactly what I was looking for. Here are some pics of when I first picked her up:
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF2998.jpg
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF2997.jpg
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF2999.jpg

My plans for the car are to do the fully built 4g63t, awd swap, 5 lug and big break swap, and one of my favorites a fully wire tucked engine bay! And this will be staying stock looking as possible for a nice sleeper look .
I picked up a wrecked 91 eclipse for all the awd parts. Its a really clean car with only 70,00miles on it too. The main reason I picked up this car was of course for all the awd parts but mainly because it has a fully built ITP trans in it. The top build you can do to the auto which was exactly what I was going to do anyway.

SO far all I have done is put the 5lug spindles on with the big brakes, dropped a 4g63t and the trans in for mock up of half shafts and front cross member for the front and rear motor mounts. I also stripped the car and all the wiring to get ready for the wire tuck action.
On to pics:

Got some more work done!!! First of I made the trans mount out of the stock mount but modified it quite a bit and then braced it to make it a solid mount:
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF3332.jpg
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF3335.jpg
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF3334.jpg

I have plenty of clearance for the axle and holy **** the longest and hardest part was getting the motor and trans where I wanted it. And I was very surprised that the stock 1g auto axle fits perfectly??????????

Then next was the rear mount. I was just going to make it to attach to the cross member Im making but it way to tight and not the best idea so I got the stock 1g auto trans mount and made it fit the firewall and then made a 1/4inch spacer for the mount on the motor and it works perfectly and dont worry I will be sandwiching the firewall with thick metal plates. And with the this mount you can take the transfer case out with out taking the mount off!!!!!!!!!
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF3330.jpg
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF3331.jpg
And right now I'm in the process of making a front cross member for the front motor mount out of 2x1 boxed tubing.
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF3336.jpg
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/beansdsm/Colt/DSCF3339.jpg
Let me know what you guys think and ill post more pics when I finish the cross member.

Hmm... Interesting, I scored a 1g 4 bolt rear end and driveshaft and im in the processing of picking up an 89 colt gl from an old grandma in town for cheap. Just wondering what you got that rear strut brace out of ? Also are you planning on running post 90 1g wiring harness or what are your plans on that? And for a power plant im going to use the motor that was originally in your colt *yes andrews motor all tidied up*. Your plans to dd or make this a racecar?

I used 2X2 1/4inch steel for the two rear subframe bars. I'm swapping in a 91 auto harness so I can run all the good sensors and so I can run my 91+ ecu. But it will be chopped up pretty good. And this will be a 1/4mile 1/8mile car plus tons of weekend action. Check out 4g61t.org they have a **** ton of info.

Note to you : when welding in the floor in the trunk after your cell is in, TAKE OUT REAR BUMPER SUPPORT!!! I accidently started mine on fire ha. Anyways, post pics up of your fuel cell mounted in the trunk. Ill try tomorrow night and get up some pics of mine. Looks VERY VERY clean with the flat trunk area as opposed to the sunk in look. Also I highly advise if your running SS braided lines to think about where your going to run them before you place your fuel cell. Just some things to think about before you place it. My mistakes can be useful to someone else at least. Also, have you looked into getting a divided t3 vband outlet turbine housing for that hx35 from bep? They are only 199$ for cast and 250?$ for the ss. Call up bill devine at bep (I can get you the number if you need) if so.

http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/photo.php?pid=1090783&id=1429369005&fbid=1409800371572

Maybe you can view them pics im not sure, but you should definately spend some time polishing the cover and upgrading the turbine housing if you are looking for a better look? Well worth the time.money put into it.

One last thing to consider - Not sure if andrew left his radiator setup in that car or not, but this is the one he had in there - and the one myself and many others are using with holset turbos for clearance issues.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200236371891&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Fits under the hood latch support VERY clean and only needed to fab up 1 bracket for it to be comfortably solid.

Good luck on your build its looking very solid.

OH 1 more thing, im not sure if you know much about the holset oiling issues but extremepsi sells an oil feed kit off the HEAD for 35$ and I made a -10 return. Just wondering how your doing your setup. From what ive read/experienced you basically have to run off the head if you remove your balance shafts unless you wanna blow oil seals 24.7 and -10 is the minimum oil return to be used on a Holset.

Again, good luck with the build.

blow oil seals? it was on a diesel, you have some insane pressure/volume to do that.

Well considering I just got a fully divided t4 manifold I don't know my I would down grade to a t3? I will be sticking with the t4 exhaust housing on the turbo and try to max it out(which will be hard) and if I need to I will be getting a the turbo rebuilt with a billet 6blade wheel. And also the compressor housing will be powder coated black or maybe another color, I'm just not a fan of the polished look!!

actually it is quite common for at least dsm's to blow the seals by to much oil pressure but the main killer when running holsets on dsm's is the return line.

I've never heard that before, good to know. I've sent a lot of oil pressure to my HX35 and it's been fine so far!

talon2008
6th April 2010, 08:02 PM
Sorry about that, I meant to say t4 divided vband outlet housing***.

I am actually running 2 oil pressure gauges 1 for the head and 1 for the oil filter housing to ensure I know what oil pressure is, and I know ALOT of guys running holsets that are doing so also because these things are so sensitive to oil pressure.

http://www.vr-speed.com/store/prosport-performance-52mm-oil-pressure-gauge-p-684.html

If you ever plan on going speed density/running high boost (aka 30+) I advise the gauge I posted below :) It comes with aem 5 bar map that you can also use for speed density. Just something I found out/bought last night.

did me (arguably the laziest guy here) posting a picture of actual work on the bmw make you decide to start working on this again?

helped a little!!!

and Im down for today. I took the rear bumper, tail lights, and crash beam out. Then I made the rear mounts solid and finally bought good bolts to mount the rear. Got them to fit and then tacked them into place. Here are some pics and more updates will follow tomorrow.
