Windstream contracts with Direct TV.
which is my understanding to be the best of the sat options. I really wish i had more HD channels but i'd rather not deal with a sat company.

I don't wither but my cable company said they are not really doing anything till 2009. so I got 18 months to enjoy something else that has more than 9 HD channels.

Yeah i was gonna say this. Honestly, dish has better deals and is easier to work with. But directv is definately superior right now overall. Plus you get tivo on directv... and thats FTW right there lol

Just a stupid reminder, but you will need a landline phone for satalite... atleast to use any function like dvr/payperview...etc. thats one of the only reasons i havent switched back.

^^ i think you need it for more than that. Updates and box probing are all done via land line.
You'd think there would be a way to buy a box/dish that can rip off direct tv.
I mean it's ****ing broadcasted and your not sending anything back to the dish... so all the dish is doing is recieving and the box is decoding...
i could be wrong but thats how i believe it works....:bolt:

nevermind... after some quick searches it looks like the sat. companies are far smarter than I gave them credit for.
I don't know what all this exactly means.. but in a nutshell here is an artical that explains why you can't hack sat. tv.

yeah you do need it for more than just those things, but that was just a basic fyi think ya know. i do know dish allows you to use their system with out a phone line for an extra charge ( i did for a month to try it out ).... however directv doesnt do this.
and yes there are ways to hack and use satelite free... but its a big pita from what ive read.... never looked too far into it tho

You can buy the programmer yourself and find the files to program the card on different forums. Also we aren't charged an extra fee for not having a landline

I haven't had a wired phone line in 5 years and have no plans of changing that.

My friend just got a contract with home phone, up to 4 DVR boxes and internet with Windstream for $90 a month. He had to pay $50 start fee though and from what I here they have a new design so rain doesnt effect the dish

We thought about doing that but found out it was just as cheap to get Road Runner, Vonage, and Dishnet seperately
