WL: 1989 Nissan 240SX Coupe

Picked this up from Kins on 10/31/09 for a pretty good price. Originally bought it to beat through winter and sell, never had any intention of modifying it at all.

After I bought it, I kinda fell in love with the car. I have no idea what it is, but something makes that 100rwhp more fun to me than any Mustang I've ever owned.

don't go sr. if anything swap in a dohc and boost it. to be honest the sr isnt that great of a motor. the only real advantages it has over the ka is weight and probably can be pushed a little harder on the stock bottom (debatable) and it has a full counterbalanced crankshaft.

'89-90 is KA24E aka SOHC. What is in your car now.
'91-94 S13 KA24DE aka DOHC. 240/284 cams.
'95-98 S14 KA24DE aka DOHC v2.0. 232/232 cams but same power as S13.

SR came from '91+ Silvias. Came in both NA SR20DE and Turbo SR20DET trims. Previous '89-90 Silvias had CA18DE or CA18DET engines. There are S13,S14, and S15 SR20DET's. Nissan stopped using the CA's because they were more expensive. SR's actually are stout motors but have a kinda shitty valvetrain (uses rockers) compared to CA,KA,RB engines.

Yaaaap. Also had some trans problems today, after some extended spirited driving the clutch was getting awfully spongy and was not engaging all the way. After I let it cool down it was fine but the clutch hasn't felt like it was engaging all the way since I bought it. Going to flush the trans tomorrow, fill it with AMSoil and check the clutch hyd. fluid level. We'll see where that gets me.

well right now he has an open diff(i have one and it fails to the 7th power). not so much from a raw power perspective but on a performance level(since he has coilovers) it makes sense to get a v-lsd also.

Ivan runs a 9.15 on a stock welded diff with different cv`s. And I`ve seen 9`s and 10`s out of the rear end ass well. Hell if I remember right Hinson says the rear is fine until you want to run like 9`s or faster.

Just weld the diff. You won`t like the price of actual lsds. You could get a vlsd but those are getting kinda old.

I wouldn`t worry about swapping rears unless you are trying to change up gearing.

u can weld it or just throw a 300zx rearend, they all came with lsds...but either one is strong and safe for lotta powarz, they even swap 'em into boosted S2000s

No, I bought it. it was a authentic bomex wangan wing, I found it online for like 450 or so.
It didnt trap water because the fit was perfect. but water did build up there when the car wasnt moving.

if i ever get a 240 again i would put a vg30dett in it and if your going to swap a rear end from a z i would pick one from a automatic TT. they are one of the strongest and if i remember rite they are 4:10's gr.
