My buddy Wade bought this truck several years ago. When he got it, it was really nice (looking). It was a half ton, with a 400 in place of the OEM 305, and a TH350 replacing the OEM TH700R4. It still had the 3.42:1 geared 10 bolts (although he was told it had 3.73's), with 35x12.50x15's on shiny go fast aluminum wheels. Leaving Fat Nappy's, he did a burnout, and we thought he blew the sunshell out of the TH350. He pulled it out, and brought it to me. I couldn't find anything wrong with the transmission upon disassembly. He was gonna bring the truck back to Albion, and when he tried loading it, found out the rear axle was actually blown. While it had been sitting in Lincoln, someone had stolen the radio, and his wheels and tires. So a set of my white wagon wheels with 33x12.50x15's was installed on it for rollers.

Fast forward to a couple months ago. I bought that K5 Blazer, so I did a little digging around, and found a $100 1982 K10 with an SM465/NP208, and a 1979 K20 for $200. I was going to throw the tranny and axles under my K5, but then I thought of Wade's truck that had been sitting in a tree line for probably five years, and I sold him the tranny/transfer case, and axles for what I had in them.

A few pics of where it had been sitting for the past few years.

This starts out by me driving to Fairbury, catching a ride to Kansas with Jake, and picking up some tires.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-11-09_1239.jpg

Here they are on the ride home, fueling up in McPherson. Thanks Jake.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-11-09_1504.jpg

From Fairbury, I headed North to Milford, and stopped to pick up this beauty.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-11-09_1929.jpg

I borrowed my little brother's 2006 K2500HD for the task. Here it is fueling up North of Milford, after getting soked in the rain loading the damn thing.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-11-09_2037.jpg

A real "fine one owner".
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/09-11-09_2038.jpg

Got the truck back to my shop, and started dismantling it.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-12-09_1713.jpg

Yanked out the engine and tranny. This truck had been a straight six from the factory, someone had swapped in the 350 later.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-12-09_1958.jpg

Got her on the ground. The engine turned out to be a 1979 .010 .020 4 bolt main 350. It has two spun rods, #1 and #2. Still a good usable core though.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-12-09_2017.jpg

I needed this bracket.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-12-09_2029.jpg

Stripped off everything I wanted. I have someone that might want the cab though.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-13-09_2157.jpg

This is how I unloaded the pickup that now had no brakes or steering.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-15-09_0836.jpg

I also mounted up one tire on a rim while I was there. Check out how much taller the mounted tire is.

The following weekend I went and picked up this gem.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/09-08-09_2009.jpg

My Burban pulling it.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-19-09_1242.jpg

Looks better without the tree.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-19-09_1243.jpg

Apparently trees are a big part of this truck though.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-19-09_1245.jpg

Another shot of the "spring repair".
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-19-09_1244.jpg

I never bothered to unload this one. Wasn't near as much that I needed off of it. Basically just got all the hardware loose to remove the axles.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-19-09_2201.jpg

Dropped it off at my junkyard. This one I just backed all the way up to the silo and let it roll off as I drove away with the trailer.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-21-09_0809.jpg

Had to put a new U-joint in the long side shaft.

Went out to bring in Wade's K10 the next weekend.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-25-09_1749.jpg

Got it on the trailer with a little John Deere assistance.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-25-09_1815.jpg

It wasn't very far thankfully, because that is all the tired 305 wanted to pull with the 3.08 gears.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-25-09_1837.jpg

Gave it a good bath, while it was still on the trailer.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-25-09_1959.jpg

Used the forklift to just pickup the rear end of the truck, due to the locked up axle not wanting to roll.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-25-09_2137.jpg

Here is the root of the problem.

The following day, little Joey Sypal was kind enough to show up and help with the job.

Here we are using the ol' 4020LP as a jack.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1512.jpg

Closer pic.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1513.jpg

Then Joe drug it around in a circle in the yard, so we could drop the front end down by the silo, and pick the back end up, to roll the axle out from under it.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1521.jpg

I got a bunch of pics of this, because I think Joe was enjoying himself.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1522.jpg

Like I said, a bunch.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1523.jpg

It was a big circle he made.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1524.jpg

Getting closer.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1525.jpg

Just about got it there.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1526.jpg

A triumphant Joe!!!
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1527.jpg

Picked up the rear, and removed the 14 bolt full floater.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1546.jpg

Made it a pretty easy job.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1548.jpg

14bff in loader bucket.

Joe still at the controls.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1604.jpg

Loaded the axles into Billy, to haul them into town.

The axles made it into town.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-26-09_1716.jpg

Got the Z bar bracket bolted on.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-27-09_1306.jpg

I remembered the part number for the conversion u-joint.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-27-09_2005.jpg

Got the 14 bolt in there.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-30-09_2237.jpg

Got the SM465/NP208 in, and sitting on 3/4 ton axles.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/09-27-09_2132.jpg

It is moving under its own power for the first time in years.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/10-10-09_1652.jpg

This Wade.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/10-10-09_1653.jpg

This impressed me at first. I knew he was strong, but I hate moving them things. It is missing one axle shaft. he didn't realize it would just fall out . . .
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/10-18-09_1740.jpg

This is when I was really impressed. I was just joking with him, and he didn't realize it. I told him just to unload the front axle by himself. . .

The K20 I bought was missing 8 lug nuts, so I went down to Doc's Service Friday, and found these horrid chrome jug nuts. Luckily, I also found a set of hub caps while I was there, to cover them up.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/82355/Wades%20K10/10-23-09_1358.jpg

Then I threw some black spray paint on the body, and some white spray paint on the wheels. Not perfect, but looks nice from a distance.

I never said I don't like short boxes. I dislike stepsides, but I dislike them whether they are short boxes or long boxes. Either way, what would my supposed distaste have to do with the way that truck cooled anything off? It definitely won't be cooling off the passengers well, one of the previous dipshit owners removed all of the AC lines and compressor.
