What oil do you use?
Why do you use it?
Can I reuse my filter?
What filter do you use and why?
Are there different oils or brands for different motors???

I've always used Motorcraft Synthetic Blend for all of my newer Fords (minus Cobra) with a Motorcraft filter. I was always told how well Motorcraft oil is, so I've just gotten into the habit of using it.
I only ran Mobil 1 synthetic in my Cobra with either a Motorcraft or Mobil 1 filter. I think Mobil 1 is some of the best stuff out there IMO.

Mobil 1 w/ wix filter. I used it just about every car I've had.
And no I wouldn't reuse a oil filter. There cheap, just get a new one. Plus if your using a junk fram filters they tend to break up after a while then you have all of that nasty **** going through your motor that could eventually cause problems in the future.

I use synthetic oil in everything I own whether it's a beater or a hot rod. Working in the warranty claim business you begin to see a correlation between engine cleanliness and type of oil filters used.
Fram oil filters are the only brand of oil filter that will void a Cummins engine warranty.
My opinion on oil filters is they must be changed every oil change, unless you really don't give a damn, then don't bother changing the oil at all. OEM filters are manufactured to prevent warranty engine failure claims. With those manufacturing standards in mind, I stick with OEM filters. WIX, Fram, Micro Guard do not build cars nor do they have to suffer the consequences of substandard quality control other than to give you a new filter. Some Fords will actually explode certain after market oil filters. Fram oil filters will make a Ford mod engine knock because of the poor check valves in the filters. Occasionally I will have my oil changed @ Valvoline Instant Oil Change down on Old Cheney and one of my vehicles will have a Valvoline filter. Valvoline filters are manufactured by Champion Labs who manufacture many different OEM filters at different times. Other filters I would use: Purolator Pure One and Mobil 1.
I stopped using WIX filters when I had my Cummins. I used many different brands of oil filters on that truck (NEVER FRAM) and always ran Delvac 1 (synthetic diesel oil). Using a Fleetguard, Baldwin or Mopar filter it would take 7,000 miles for the oil to even noticably change color from what it was poured out of the bottle. I used a WIX once and the same oil was nearly black in 3,000 miles. I drove that truck like I stole it for 137,000 miles and never had any lubrication issues. The oil pan was removed @ 99,000 miles to repair a small oil seep and the internals were bright silver with no browning anywhere.
Oil and oil filter opinions are like what kind of tiolet paper you use. Everyone has reasons why they use on over another, just the reasons are very different for everyone.

Yep, and I've never ran a oem filter in mine except when it came from the dealership but I think that was before fram was making them. The only other filter I've ran in my honda was the Hamp filters.
I've also noticed some racers will put a clamp around there oil filters to increase the oil pressure, it keeps the filter housing from expanding. Weird but what ever you need to do for 5 more psi....

I couldn't budge the crank with a 3 ft cheater on a breaker bar...locked up like a rock. Then the customer was mad because we wouldn't warranty the engine....durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I remember one time at "Saturn" there was a chick that brought in her Saturn L because the "low oil" light was on and turned out who ever changed her oil last forgot to put the valve cover cap back on and most of the oil over time came back out.
But when the mechanics told her that it was almost out of oil and was caught just in time and the engine could of locked up and cost her thousands of dollars to replace the engine she said ....."that sounds bad"

Lightning gets Mobil 1 with a filter in this order based on availability Motorcraft, Purolator (makes the FL-820S Motorcraft filter anyway), Wix used once because I walked into the place on teh corner from me only to find out they didn't have Motorcraft or Purolator), none of those available it's time to go to a different store.
Bronco II, Valvoline with same filter options.
Torino will be back to Mobil 1 with the mod motor but it burned way too much oil to use synthetic in the 289.
Reuse filter? **** NO! That's most of the reason for changing the oil, the filter has lost it's ability to do it's job.

Oh, and if I have a downward hanging filter, i.e. the Lightning, Bronco II, Ranger, 289, etc. I ALWAYS fill the filter with oil before putting it on. Can't do that if there is some other filter orientation because the oil would just dump back out.

1. Royal Purple 2. AMS are what serious oil fanatics use. They are probably the best. Royal purple is proven to increase hp. About 5-7.

honda, cheapest oil and filter, usually costs about 8-9 dollars per change, it gets changed just about every 1.5 months (roughly 3000 miles)
mustang gets Mobil 1 full synthetic and a K&N filter, i talked with our oil lab guy at caterpillar, he has tested dozens of different filters, so far the K&N filter seems to be the best (not economical)and it traps the smallest particle size out of any tested.

It's NEVER too late to start on synthetic- it has superior lubricity properties over dino oil...if you have leaks, they'll just get worse, and if you have anything that was going to leak, it will for sure on synthetic...it just points out the repairs that need to be made.
83Z28- 3k changes....Ran Quaker Syn b/c I didn't know any better, and my dad was a quaker guy. K&N or Delco filters. Ran fram for a while, but stopped after hearing the 'little orange can of death' stories, and after my gf at the time bought one for her car and after torquing it down, the SOB sprayed oil all over the drive. Anyway, she lasted to 198k (bought her with 122k) and the inside was not so yummy looking.
96 Blazer- I run 5k changes becuase I drive mostly interstate, and 55k/yr......bought at 75k, today she will have 333,686 by the time I get home from the office. I have run Mobil 10/30 Syn with a Delco filter from day one. Put a new timing chain in for grins and giggles at 200k- inside looked like new. Replaced the oil pan gasket at 275k, looked brand new.
86Z28- 3 month oil changes- she's my 'Friday' car, so I go by time. Rotella diesel oil during cam break in and setting the rings. Since then, Mobil 10/30 dino at 50, 100, 500, 1000, and 3000 miles with a bottle of GM EOS (Engine Oil Suppliment). I also run a Delco filter, but buy the 'big one' that is meant for the 350 in a 4x4 chassis...more capacity and filter area. Next change she's going over to Mobil Syn becuase she'll be broken in enough for my tastes.
I add BG MOA since my GM EOS was disco'd....my buddy from Rotella's Bakery in Omaha is a big Poncho guy, and wrote a story for a Pontiac rag about ZDDP being removed from modern oil- (http://www.highperformancepontiac.com/tech/hppp_0606_understanding_motor_oil/index.html ) so I've started adding it to prevent piston skirt scuffing in Bessie's (the Blazer) golden years. I add MOA with EVERY oil change to the 86- it's a must with a flat tappet. According to one of the guys at Advance, BG made EOS for GM. MOA is the same thing, just different pack.

I beleive if you read your car manual in some vehicles it says Mostly city driving change every 3000 or 3 months, Mostly highway change 5000 or 5 months and I think you can use 1 filter for every 2 oil changes.
Winter time use a thinner oil oil to make cranking easier. If you use synthetic it really doesnt matter.

In teh hondr...i use Valvoline maxlife 5w30 and Wix filter....I use Maxlife.....um I dunno why, just do...the honda used oil for a while, it has since slowed down to ~1qt every 2k miles...and Wix because it is the best filter I believe...
In the GP....I use some farmland stuff my dad used in his garbage trucks. I run 10w30. I use the farmland stuff because he used to send tests of it in every oil change (~200 hrs) on his trucks (CAT diesels) and they always came back w/ excellent results. He then extended his oil change intervals to 300 hrs (this is synthetic oil range) and the tests still came back great!
he used 15w40 IIRC, well, I use the 10w30 equivalent and figure it must be just as good.....I only change the oil twice a year anyways....only put on 5K miles a year.
I also use WIX or ACDelco, and I run the 4.3 filter since it fits and is twice as big for the same price.
