Just picked this up from my brother because he has no time to work on it anymore. It's a 1984 VW Rabbit. Or is it an '85. I don't remember right now. I'm a VW noob. It has a built 16v motor. 9:1 compression on JE pistons with a port and polish on the head. Machine work on block and head were done at Carquest. Has an MSD 6al with boost retard function. Currently has megasquirt installed. The tranny is out of a diesel pickup I believe. I'm not all sure what is up with the suspension. Has some sort of aftermarket rear sway bar. A stabilizer bar up front and a strut tower bar that I'm not at all sure will work with the motor swap. Some sort of lowering springs installed Has a turbo exhaust manifold for Mitsubishi style turbos. 680cc injectors.
For right now I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about these little VWs. I 'm planning on stripping the Megasquirt out and instead running a Haltech E6X. I, for some reason or another, happened to have a very nice t25 turbo sitting in my closet. So that's what I'm going with for now. I also have an intercooler from a Mercedes Benz C230 that looks like it will fit very nicely. The interior is okay, but it's all a little worn. The headliner is sagging and I think the sunroof leaks. I'd like to redo the seats and headliner at least. I have a set of later model VW sport seats that I'd like to put in. Anyways, that's about it for now. This week I'm going to work on getting it someplace that I can easily work on it when I have free time.
