You lie

Apparently this stuff was sold at autozone like hotcakes... now they are startign to phase them out?

Ervin

^^^ Yes, because German oil made cars run perfectly
This was unacceptable for auto part stores (who need to make money off of our broke ass cars) hence leading to the discontinuation of german oil sold in the US

That is my theory. Accept it!

I would try Autostoned. Durrrrrr. Maybe any other auto parts supplier? Actually, I bet you could get that stuff by the case if you'd stop in at Rasing Cane's and pick me up some chicken fingers.

Thunder

If you could guarantee me at LEAST 5 quarts, i would buy you some chicken fingers.

Post this up on LS1tech. I'm pretty sure there is a vendor on there that can get you cases.

David

Alot of people will swear by it. The same individuals will tell you it "fixed" a noise or something alone those lines. I think it's a waste of money but then again I change my oil every 2-3k miles when it's easily good for 4-5. I'll look and see if i can find the oil thread on corvetteforum later that compares the cas vs mob1.

I ran my fastback without oil and coolant a few times...oddly enough it actually seemed to run better with no oil :lost:

Not on purpose btw, I had a nasty leak so I was losing like 1.5qt every 1.5k miles.

I think it's a waste of money

So its a waste of money to try a different oil that people have good things to say about, and costs as much, if not CHEAPER, than mobil 1? Wheres the logic in that?!

I know for sure Walmart has the 5w-30 and 10w-30 for $20 (5q bottle) right now but I don't know about the 0w. I was going to pick some up last night for the mullet but I went with super tech instead. I figured if super tech oil is good enough for the space shuttle then it's good enough for the mullet.

Castrol Syntec came from the factory in my Jetta TDI and they recommended 10k oil changes with it. I know there were guys over on the TDI forums that had their oil tested after 10-15k miles and it was still within spec. Good stuff

same with the ls1 guys... 8000 hard miles... test comes back clean and say they coulda probably ran another 1-2k miles. I figured, if its in town and at 5.99 a quart (just like mobil 1), why not. But apparently the stuff ishard to come by in some of the smaller autozones (like the one in lincoln)

Have you tried calling them and asking if they can order it? i had the guys at orileys order me a case of the tranny fluid that i wanted.. didn't cost any extra. They didnt' charge me for the rest of the case either that i didnt' use... If anything call them ask em if they can get it... i'd bet chris at 48th could figure out how to get you some.

You never find that thread?

Found some at Autozone (musta restocked, didn't have any when i looked a while back)

Car idles slightly quieter (less valvetrain noise)

Cold idle = 45 psi
previous = ~35 psi

Warm idle- ~40-42 psi
previous- ~28 psi

at WOT= ~60 psi
previous= ~45 psi

This switching from Mobil 1 10w-30 to Castrol Syntec 0w-30. I am using a Mobil 1 filter instead of AC Delco.

Normally, I wouldn't make a fuss over that, but I only had that mobil 1 in there for about 3000-3500 miles... I changed it somewhere past 40k, now im sitting at 43500, but my speedo has been off for 3 weeks since the rear swap, so it could very well be 43000 actual. I know I beat on the car, but I didn't think it'd break down so quickly... the oil looked goopy and black, thats for sure. I didn't think to save some for analysis though unfortunately, its sitting mixed with another oil at Lepas house.

And for the record, it was cheaper than the mobil 1 at autozone. The mobil 1 there was 6.23 / qt and the Castrol was 6.09.

Next time don't bother comparing oil pressure dependant on the throttle position. It's all in the oil temperature and engine RPM. If your oil pressure actually jump up that high at WOT, but then comes back down when you chop the throttle you have other issues that need attention.

If your oil doesn't turn black, it's not doing it's job. The blackness is the crap it's picked up in your engine; instead of leaving it sit and accumulate like some 'clean' oils. If it's goopy when drained, then something really isn't right- make many short trips? haha

Its not based on throttle position, when I say WOT, im saying I'm taking it to my shift point (6000 rpm). at 3500rpm+, it stays at 60psi.

And unfortunately, I don't have an oil temperature gauge... so i just beat on the car a bit, and thats how i figured a "warm" pressure reading.

The fact of the matter is, there was a big difference... and yes, I know it should be black... please, I'm not stupid. But after such little miles? I dunno...

why would the speedo being off affect your odometer?

roo
8th November 2007, 06:28 PM
oil pressure is overrated

Thunder
8th November 2007, 06:29 PM
because my odometer is read based off the speedometer ..

BossRoss
8th November 2007, 06:30 PM
why? even if you got 10 miles at 20mph. or at 60mph your still only traveling 10 miles. i always thought there was a seperate sensor for the odometer

Thunder
8th November 2007, 06:34 PM
yes, but the odometer is calculating distance using velocity based on my speedometer and a timer. So if my speedometer is reading 60 mph, but I'm actually traveling 50mph, its going to say I'm going farther than I actually am.

If time = 5 minutes
and velocity = 60 mph (speedo)

then my odometer is going to say I've traveled 5 miles.

however

if in reality, i'm doing only 50 mph, then I've actually traveled 4.1 miles.

BossRoss
8th November 2007, 06:37 PM
i always thougt it was a wheel sensor. based on how many revolutions the front or rear wheels turn

Thunder
8th November 2007, 06:40 PM
when you start putting hundreds of miles on the car, the gap widens.

Thunder
8th November 2007, 06:41 PM
Well, I tried it with milemarkers going to omaha. I traveled 39 miles according to the mile markers, but my odometer read 46 miles. The only way I could get an accurate number, is if I had some sort of GPS.

David
8th November 2007, 10:42 PM

your clue: W

86Shelby

He changed too many variables to even get into the weight of the oil difference. Now if the filters had stayed the same, there would be something resembling a case for the higher presure.....almost. One thing most people don't account for with oil filters is the bypass valve. Some have a weaker spring than others. Stiff spring - most everything goes through the filter and there is naturally a pressure drop. Weak spring- oil bypasses the filter media and you effectively have higher pressure in the oil galleries due to a lower pressure drop.

David
8th November 2007, 11:09 PM
of the two oils that he has used... which has a higher viscosity?
