View Full Version : Having wireless problems with PS3

For some reason, I just can't get a good network setup with the PS3 and the 2 pcs in the house.

Its always wanting to kick me off the network whenever i have all 3 up and going. The other 2 will be idle and not even connected to the internet, but it'll intermittently kicked any of the 3 off the network

i tried manually setting IPs and DNS, and can't get that to work right (just PS3)

I tried to make sure someone wasn't getting on, so i have it wep protected, and yet only 1 of the 4 keys seems to work with the PS3, and it sends my router into nutty mode when i try setting up the ps3 for online. It'll make it restart and crap, then the PS3 won't find a connection or i'll get an array of connection errors.

I'm very inexperienced with wireless networking, so maybe im missing something?

walking people through setting up a wireless network online seems like trying to explain to Alley that mopars are gay...

For technical help it's usually best that you post your information to help elminate guesses just like with a car.

some questions i have.

are any of your computers running vista?

what kinda router. Brand and model number would sure be nice.

Have you attempted to hook the ps3 up via the ethernet connection?

Did this dropping exist before the PS3?

Have you updated your PS3?

Have you tried disabling your security and seeing if that works?

are any of the computers directly hooked up to the router?

Those questions should get us started...

on a side note. I have a wireless router that was set up for laptop.. my ps3 accepted the connection as fast as i could type my password in. It has never dropped a connection and it's located in my closest. I run the wires from the closest, through the wall to the tv mounted on wall. I was a lil nervous about dropping my connection in the closet but it holds up like a champ :)

1 no
2 linksys wrt54g
3 yes, and that works. i dont like it like that though because i need the other 2 pcs online

4 not to this extent, no
5 have not, i can try that.
6 yes, i have an open connection with no firewall... i just played a game of madden here. I don't like it like that though, being so exposed ha.

7 no, for some reason my onboard networking device is not working... so everything is wireless and the router is only connected to the modem.

i have the same router.

are you going to 192.168.1.1 to make your configuration or are you using the linksys software?

assuming you setting the router using the above... see if your setting match mine..

wireless>basic settings> mixed/(routername)/6(2.437ghz)/enabled

wireless security>wep>1>64 bit 10 hex digits>your password>click generate> write down key. save settings.

wireless mac filter: disable

advance wireless: auto>default>auto>dis>dis>100>1>2346>2347>off>enable.

u should still be able to get wireless even if you are using the ethernet cable. b/c it is a router not a modem. most routers have at least 4 ethernet ports which also serves as a hub. and they should not interfere with the wireless connection. if they do. i'd suggest buying a new router

Strike one:
Shoulda bought a 360 instead of a PS3

Strike two:
Linksys WRT54G Routers suck for gaming, and a PITA to configure (took me something like 9 hours to do mine)

Strike three:
You drive a Camaro

/end life now

yea netgear routers blow balls. me and my teacher set em up in our cafeteria for the lunch ladies computer and it sucked balls. we had to go in and reconfigure the ip address about every week. along with reentering the mac address into the server to pick up the computer. switched it over to a linksys and never had any problems again. however the best stuff i've worked with by far is cisco stuff. added a booster to one of the ports on our sever and on my teachers and my computer we were pullin 1gb internet speed. was f'in fun. click on a page and its already loaded before u blink

i've had a wrt54g, and i currently have a netgear router. the netgear OWNZ the wrt54g. I actually went through 2 linksys routers, because the first one went out. Linksys routers drop connections, netgear routers are ALOT more stable and have better range.

^^ i strongly disagree but it sounds like we all have different oppinions of these products

btw the netgear router i was using that is sitting on my desk collecting dust is a wgr614 v6

it was lamer than owning a mopar.

DarkSlide

I wouldn't say owning a Mopar is lame. Now if you're talking the newer puss'd out Mopars maybe. But owning a '69 440ci GTX wouldn't be lame.

Useless input, 360 > PS3. And EA blows ass.

What does 360 have.
an over hyped halo 3, gears, bioshock.
ps3 has some sweet games out and many many more will follow.
i am currently hooked on warhawk. sweet game.

and all 360s break, it is just a matter of time.

Yogi

Halo3 is not over hyped, it's a great game, Bioshock i never really got into. GOW is fkn almost as badass as Halo.

I have yet to see a PS3 game out yet that I want that havent been able to get for 360, God fo War 3 on the other hand.....

Video games are for the lazy, you shouldn't have to jump around and wave a fancy remote with a "nunchuk" to play a damn game.

did it work? if not, what i always do is the wireless mac filter. it only enables the stuff you put in the list to be online. you must include both computers, ps3, and router for it to work. anyone can see the router but only what you put in the list can use it. works great for me.
