so I received a ticket on May 3rd (Sunday) for no insurance or proof of ownership (mx6). I just forgot to put the papers in the car. So I go to the city attorney today to get it reversed, and he tells me he can't do the insurance. Apparently my Geico card shows my effective insurance date as May 4th. Well this pisses me off because I replaced the Celica with the MX6 on the 30th of April. I've had a couple people tell me my old insurance follows a new car for a small period of time... does this apply to private party deals? Would my next course of action be to contact Geico? You might be coverd, you might not, only one way to find out. Call Geico and ask them if the new car was covered during the time you got the ticket. If it was, ask them to provide you with the paperwork to prove it.

I must have gotten lucky because I got pulled over in the ls1 last night for no plates. I didn't have proof of ownership except a shipping receipt but I did have proof of insurance...no ticket, not even a written warning.

One I talked to last year about getting an improper registration ticket dropped was kind of a jerk too, but he dropped it. Was he in the office straight down at the end of the hall?

Is it the guy on the right side of the hall, first or second door down?

He's a ****.

The lady on the left side, first door is pretty nice. Don't recall their names...I suppose thats a good thing.

Ahmad, your insurance should cover your new car for atleast a few days. Idk wtf that guys problem is.

Call Gieco and see what they have to say. If they can get you some paperwork, you should be able to take it back in and have it dropped.

If not, then plan on having to pay a reinstatement fee on your court date and having an SR22 on file for the next couple years.

When I got my new car my new insurance guy (I have Farmers) told me I would have 30 days on my old insurance. He also offered to backdate my date of insurance to whenever I needed it backdated to. Glad Geico got you the paperwork and all is good. I have never met a kind city official. I think they get their raises based on level of rudeness.

When I got my 20 over ticket I went in to try to get it down to 19 so I could take the stop class. He says "I don't have the power to do that, and if I did I wouldn't exercise my right to". I almost asked him how much assault charges were.

Ya, I wont even talk with that racist ****. If I show up and he's the one that comes to deal with me, I simply turn around, walk out and come back another day to deal with someone that's not a racist ****.

yeah i paid 44 dollars for not technically breaking the law. Although I didn't have the paperwork present, i still was insured in the vehicle I owned.

lame.

No kidding, I think you shouldn't have to pay fees if you weren't in the wrong. Just like if you argue a ticket and win, you have to pay court costs when clearly it was the cop's(city's) fault.
