Purchased September 2008
Purchased at a garage sale in Summer 2008. There was no battery or cable so it was sold AS IS and I was unable to test it out. The engine bay had oil all over and overall didn't look like it was well maintained. The price was right so I picked it up. ($300)
Brought it home, rigged a cable and dropped a battery in. It fired right up and ran with no issues. :woot:

Dumped the trailer on Craigslist for $100, Now only into it $200
Mid September 2008
Took it out for it's first test ride. Right away I could tell something wasn't right. At anything over 1/3 throttle it just revved and didn't go. It felt just like a car with a slipping clutch. After I returned home, I found that the impeller is wasted. At this point I remember the guy saying he had beached it on occasion but was "real carefull to not suck up any rocks" :doubt:

Late September 2008
I made a parts list and decided to find all the parts I needed over the winter.
I happen to spot this on the LPD auction and picked it up for $20 :woot:
It had the impeller I needed along with some other parts on my list. It also included an aftermarket exhaust system. I asked the yard guys how they came into posession of a Jetski with no motor. They said someone had tossed it over a bridge somewhere in the county.

Got the ski out of storage and pulled the pump out. Figured out what parts I still needed and ordered them.

Really tore into it today. First I ditched the oil injection system. These can fail at any time and it may be leaking.

Next I was looking at the motor and decided to pull it out to install the new pipe. This will also give me access to the rear of the engine compartment for cleaning. (there is oil residue everywhere).

The next thing to ditch was the crankcase drain. They have a tendency to leak and make the motor run lean. They were discontinued on the later models. I removed the valve, tapped the drain holes and plugged them with stainless bolts and 1211.

During this process I tipped the motor to one side and had a very unpleasant surprise. The previous owner had mistook the inspection plug for an oil fill and proceeded to put about a quart of motor oil in the flywheel cover. (quite common). I should have checked but didn't and proceeded to dump oil on the floor. I pulled the cover and cleaned out the rest of the oil.

While my drain plugs were drying I went back to the hull. I tried to clean it with dishsoap and water but it just won't cut the grease. I will have to use brake cleaner and decided to put that off for another day while I let it dry.

The last project I tackled today was the removal of the footwell pads. They are outdoor carpet and are really abrasive. They are brutal on bare skin. The glue someone used isn't coming off very easy. So far the best method has been the DA sander with 40 grit. I got one side mostly done, haven't touched the other.
