so i have a small issue with my radio in my 97 Z28. the radio likes to randomly shut itself off. but sometimes if u hit the dash the radio will turn back on. now thats not the only fun part. when the radio shuts off the windows get no power. any ideas as to what could cause it?

Wired into the same circuit. Someone probably cut and twisted wires.

I'd start with the wiring behind the stereo, and check your fuse box for any wiring that was spiked in next to a fuse to supply power to something.

its the body control module. Its located under the passenger side dash. There are some soldered joints that break or crack after so many miles. My 2000 did this for a while (no power windows, radio shuts off). All you have to do is remove the BCM, open it up (exposing circuit board) and resolder the joints on some of the chips. After I did that, I've been problem free.

Its a fairly easy fix, biggest pain in the neck is getting the BCM out. Easier if you remove the glove box.
I hope you read this before unneccessarily digging into your wiring harness lol

looking at the board, nothing may seem wrong or out of place. The joints usually have very miniscule cracks. Throw some fresh solder on them and you'll be golden

Listen to Ahmad, he told me this and it sounded retarded, but sure enough it worked. I personally witnessed his radio/window retardedness, it made me laugh when his radio would cut out and he'd pound on the passenger side of his dashboard to make it turn back on.

Spoon its not stupid because i can pound right above the radio and 85% of the time it turns it back on. but that gets annoying.
