on my gf's dell laptop 90% of the time she opens internet explorer it immediatly will close. ive ran 3 different virus scans and spyware programs, tried adjusting the pop up blocker, and some other random stuff. still does it. its a few years old so im tryin to talk her into just getting a new laptop that isnt a dell or gateway.... prolly an hp cuz ive had awesome luck with mine. anyone have any ideas on this?

have you update IE to the lastest version (7)

IE ****ing up is not a reason to buy a new PC.

If it is well then anytime your starter goes out in your car be sure to get rid of it then also.

until then.

thats not the reason for a new one, ive been telling her that for awhile. she never used it for anything when she first got it and now the stuff shes using it for and going to be using it for it would just be nice to have one that doesnt suck. plus she gets a 2 year interest free loan for any computer through the bank she works at

ya.. not a reason to get a new one, however a good excuse :)

i'd use the windows update and let it update IE to the lastest version and see if that helps. If you dont' have adaware or some other form of spyware removal i'd get it quick..

I will say that vista doesn't seemed bothered by spyware. I hadn't scanned my comp is 2 months.. updated and ran it.. 600+ files WTF.

Do you have any of those toolbars installed? Google toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, etc. installed then and it might solve the problem. I've had several people came to me ask me to fix it with the same problem, and that was what I did. Or bring it to me, with a small fee, I'll reformat your computer for you :-D

only problem i see with everyone's suggestion for firefox is he'd need to beable to download it. and if explorer is shutting down right when it opens.. doesn't sound like he will be able to DL. You could of course save it on another computer, burn it as an option.
