I need to have a crank polished (lol) and I don't know where to take it. I'd like to get a few estimates first, though. Any ideas?

I'm gonna have a buddy come over and take a look at it. I think he might be able to get it done for half price.

Is there any other place in Lincoln that grounds crankshafts besides CarQuest? Anything's gotta be better than them.

the worst thing that's ever happened to me there is having to wait a long time.

**** gets backed up, whatever.

Larry's very fair for port work as well, in my experience.

the only thing ive had first hand experience with, was they bored my friends block .020 over and they hit a casting flaw leaving basically a gouge in the cylinder wall and instead of stopping there and calling him they finished all the work to the block. he didnt notice it till he got it home and 2 weeks later because he didnt look it over at the shop and didnt have time to touch it for 2 weeks. he went backa nd talked to larry and he said "we knew about it but i wouldnt havent sent it out if it wasnt going to be fine" personally i woulda been really pissed especailly with goals of 500+ on a 4 cylinder

if your friend has really steady hands, have him hold a dremel while you rotate the crankshaft, but just really lightly.

but make sure you do it in a counter-clockwise so that you dont mess up the grain of the metal

HOH KAY?

I don't doubt that they do good work, Larry's a cool guy. I just wanted to know if there was any other place because it won't be done for probably another week and I need/want to get this done.

Jon W. is who grinds cranks there. I have total trust in them. 1/2 price usually means **** work......IMO

you get what you pay for, especially in machine work. i have always been satisfied with capital machine, though never had any bottom end work done there.

I'm just gonna keep it at CarQuest. Capital Machine is perty backed up too. It sounds like CarQuest does a good job.

Yeah, by the time you found anyone better, the week would be up anyway.

Yeah, probably.

I'm just not a very patient person. Especially when it comes to car parts and **** like that.

I had him bore/hone, hot tank, and linebore my block and polish my crank. He also got me a great deal on rings, bearings, and rods. The one downside was that it took a little while, but well worth it.
