Dual-channel memory performance is only realized when memory (ram) is installed in matched pairs

yes it is what your laptop takes but it only has 2 slots and they are already taken by 1Gb (2 × 512 MB) so you would have to get 2Gb (2 × 1Gb MB) sticks to upgrade it.
