I have been thinking about doing a solid axle swap to my 97 K1500 for 2 to or 3 years because I don't want to have to **** around with the IFS. I have some questions about what do guys think would be easiest. Most people say get a dana 44 or 60 out of a 78-79 ford pick up so the punkin is on the driver side so you can use the stock t case. But my question is how hard would it be to get a gm t case that has a passenger side output that would bolt up to a 4l60e so I could use a axle form a gm truck so I can have matching wheels? What t case would I need to do this? Also my truck is gay and has push button t case

Then you could also ditch that NP241 or whatever those have in favor of an NP205, and twin stick it.

my trans could use a rebuild but I have been throwing the idea around about going to a 4l80e would it be the same thing to get a 205 on it?

Or if you really want to billy bad ass go nv4500 with a 205. I would say what ever you do go 3/4 ton axles. It is still the best way to gear and add strength for less than a 1/2 ton axle regear.

Doing a manual swap on those trucks is a cakewalk. If you find the stuff from a comparable year, it is a straight across bolt on. I did one on a 92 Suburban. All the holes are already dimpled for the clutch pedal and master. If you do the NV4500 the holes are dimpled in the floor for the shifter too. The holes are there in the frame as well for the crossmember. The rear driveshaft will even work if you stick with an aluminum t case like a 208 and run passenger side drop.

Yes, It's the heavier duty overdrive manual. It has a top loaded cast iron case with an aluminum rear overdrive housing. You'd find them in 92ish to 98ish pickups. GM also used an NV3500 which was an aluminum cased end loaded transmission. You don't want one of those. They are garbage.

whats not to understand?

I used to lay dual question marks with my 96 work truck. Back up about 35 mph and then push in the clutch, jam it in 1st, grab a big old bunch of throttle and bam instant ??

Yeah, my head was spinning for a little bit. I would never have figured that out without the explanation.
