Any word on that? They have a compaq that seems to be pretty decent. gig of ram, 120g hd, dual core something, well heres the link..

It wont charge, unless the cord is held into the port, or whatever you wanna call it.. its just pissing me off, and being gay. the battery is ****. Itll say 90% battery life, then like 4 minutes later, it dies. plus, its a basic dell from 2 years ago, lol. Ill sell it when i get a new one, how much you wanna buy it for?
Is gateway a shitty laptop? theres a gateway that doesnt seem to bad

Its 700 though, and i think i would rather have that compaq, and save some money. I dont game, or do any of that kinda crap. I just use the internet, download music/videos, and of course ****.

I love my gateway.. Got it from bestbuy. I do recommend buying it from a retail store and buy the extended warr. unless your computer is just gonna sit on a desk. In that case dont' buy a laptop buy a desktop..

otherwise the one you posted is pretty decent. 2gigs for vista i think is pretty much a requirement.

1 gig is the Recommended system requirement for Vista.
Microsoft also Recommends 512mb for XP. 512 lol

If you are buying a laptop with vista make sure it has at least 1GB of RAM, minimum. For what you say you're going to use it for, that should be plenty and I wouldn't put a lot of value on upgrading the RAM.
When it comes right down to it, the manufacturers are all about the same. I've used Dells, gateways, HPs, Compaqs, and they are all really just...laptops. They are small, usually low powered computers, nuff said. Don't worry about brand.
The things you should be concerned with (since you said you don't do gaming or really use any power hungry programs) :
-Battery Life
-Screen size
-Hard drive space
-General ease of use (keyboard, mouse button layout, size, weight, etc. I find having a touchpad with a scroll pad on the side is an absolute necessity)
Pretty much any processor, graphics card, wireless card, or sound card that comes with anything that is packaged with vista should be plenty for what you described you need

i just bought an x61 lenovo 12.1 in screen. sucks my nuts. also 1 gig of ram. because that is fine. i have been rocking 1 gig of ram on my desktop. it has never been an issue for me.

I'm not implying that the computer wont' work with 1 gig. Of course it will. I just think the performance advantage of 2 gigs is well worth it.

your cord problem is caused from a soldered connection that came loose. you can take it to someone to have em fix it or you can crack it open and solder it back on yourself for a couple bucks if you already have a soldering iron with a small tip.

Average computer users won't notice the difference. Advanced image/video editing programs, 3d modeling software, and games will see a difference, but internet explorer and microsoft office aren't an issue.

i can NOTICE the difference, when im playing a game like company of heroes for example. it plays FINE, but takes forever when i alt- tab it. but what would 2 gigs do for me? make that alt- tab take less time? **** it, spending an extra 100-200 is not worth being able to alt-tab out of a demanding program.
above and beyond that, your computer can still operate even if it is over on ram, we all know this. i seriously doubt anyone on here needs 2 gigs of ram more than 1% of the time.

so i was raving about my laptop... well my motherboard or internal powersupply decided to take a dump the other day... it's all covered. But they have to send it off to be fixed.
^^ exactly why i suggest their performance plan. Funny thing I bought it sept 30th 2006. I'm not 100% because i dont' care but i'm pretty sure it had a 1 year manufacture warr. this problem occured on oct. 8th. 2007. WTF. i bet the ***** had a ****ing timer. :rolleye: oh well bestbuy has my back... maybe i'll get lucky and they wil just ship me a new laptop with vista already installed seeing as i got ubber ****ed on getting a free vista upgrade :rolleye:

14th October 2007, 03:10 AM
thats alot like mine, but i got 1 gig of memory, and a 1.7 processor, but a 17 inch widescreen and full keyboard. k so its not really like mine, but they are both gateways with 160g HD, if that counts for anything, lol
