View Full Version : Hunting Idle

Not so much a problem(or maybe it is), but when my Jeep Grand Cherokee is idling in gear, it holds a pretty steady idle. If I stick it in neutral then the idle fluctuates(usually not too bad, just a few hundred rpms) and never gets steady until I put it back in gear. Any idea what causes that?

I am thinking it might be my IAC because when I am driving at low RPMs(1000-1500 or so) and I let off, the idle rpms drop to about 250 or lower then it catches itself. It will only stall out rarely, like if I tap the gas while its in gear and let off(but not necessarily every time, although it has been getting worse).

still doing it, its stalling out more often than not. Usually its if I tap the gas, like waiting in line at the parking garage. I only want to move a car forward and idling is slightly too slow so I tap the gas to move and the rpms will drop to not even registering. Sometimes it will come back up, sometimes not. I am also running extremely rich, like backfiring after a WOT run.

Jeep is speed density, I have a MAP. I will check the voltage readings from it tomorrow though.
