The law is pretty dumb, I don't think they should be able to tell you where on your property you can put your couch, I mean yes, I think it looks like **** most the time someone has a couch on their porch or deck, but its their house, they paid for it, they pay their taxes for it, and they should be able to put their couch where ever the **** they please.
And the fines are pretty ridiculous.

Silly law.
BOORAH

Well yeah, but it all depends on how they make it look and stuff.
Like they could have a nice looking couch on there with a plastic cover that could look decent, better than what some people have.
Or it could look like complete ****, which in that case, they should be warned.

Florine Joseph, who lives at the corner of 24th Street and Dudley Avenue, said she often goes out and cleans up the property near her home because she cares about her neighborhood. But she said some nice houses won’t sell because they’re near dilapidated homes.
I know that neighborhood, and if she claimed that, she is completely full of ****. And a couch on the porch does NOT equal a dilapidated home. This is a ****ing bullshit issue brought up by a bunch of bullshit nitpickers who really need to find better things to do with their time.
It just seems to me that there's a lot more important things that the City Council could be doing as opposed to worrying about a couch on some college students porch. They're why this city runs as slow as it does.
I agree completely.

i looked at 30+ houses in 06 when i bought mine, if there was a poorly maintained house with a couch on the porch next door I wouldnt even consider it.
how many nice houses do you know of that have thier living room on the porch??? ive been to alot of them, all ****.

So removing all the couches will suddenly fix all these problems?
Seriously, this is like taking that Monte Carlo in the pics, painting over everything, and calling it fixed.
If Mrs. Joseph is concerned about the trash in her neighborhood, then let's do something about the trash.
If buyers and sellers are concerned about run down or dilapidated houses in their market, then let's do something about fixing the houses.
The couches are not the real issue, but that's how this city works I guess.

Oh I'm sure people had similar ideas 30-40 years ago when the city planners were trying to figure out how to shape Lincoln, but as I recall hearing, the problem was the old heads in charge not wanting to fund good road projects as opposed to a lack of good project ideas. Coop is right, the old guard did want to keep that "small town feel," so they made the Interstate go all the way AROUND town instead of through it. They made Highway 2 go through town, but put stop lights every mile or less instead of interchanges. They made 2 connect in at 9th, 10th, and Van Dorn instead of swinging out south around the grain elevator north of the Penn like some people wanted.
The typical Lincoln "plan" seems to be this:
-Build huge suburban neighborhoods around 2 lane paved county roads
-Let them get fairly developed and established
-Shut down the road for a year or two to widen it to 4 lanes
-Create headaches for everyone
That is ass ****ing backwards.
It should be:
-Plan out new developments
-Build up roads and other infrastructure
-Build houses and businesses
-Reap benefits of well planned city
Like I said, the people in charge years ago didn't want to raise taxes to pay for the sort of stuff that other cities were investing in at the time, and we now have to pay the price with our 1940s two-lane arterial system, narrow, tree-clogged streets, and urban sprawl.
So they let developers come in and develop their developments instead of putting in good roads and sewers beforehand. They have more pull than good old Joe Taxpayer does.
