Recently, I brought my car to MeGinnis to have them pressure test my radiator and asked them about the annoying squeak I get on the left front side when I hit a bump or turn my wheel. They looked it over and told me it was a worn tie rod end that they couldn't lube because it's sealed in a boot. They quoted me like $250. How much actual labor is involved if I were to do it myself? I could get the inner and outer ends for like $75. Is it worth it? I've done motors before, but no suspension. Also, could that be causing the random jerks side to side I get every now and again? Thanks in advance for any help.

random jerks, yes. squeak? I've never had a tie rod end squeak, just clunk. almost allways it's been sway bar end links that squeak. both tie rods, and sway bar end links are extremely easy to do. do it yourself, or have someone on here help you. takes about 20 minutes to do an inner/outer. don't forget to get yourself a rack/pinion boot kit, you'll need that too if you're doing the inner.

awesome...thx. I'd rather have someone help me, just because I've never messed with suspension before. I assume I'm going to have to get an alignment done after. Correct?

don't have to. measure the old ones when you take them off, then just install the new ones to the same measurements. i all ways just count the threads or eye ball it, and never have had a problem. of course, if you want to be perfect, yes an alignment would be good. b/c who knows if your old tie rods where in proper alignment.

I hope that's what it is. I just can't see the tierods going out at 42,000 miles, but oh well, it's a cheap replacement anyway. :)
