turbo, 21psi, mid 20* timing, 93octane with no ethanol.
I also run a direct port water meth setup. 4 M1 nozzles spraying 50/50 water meth.

no one ever said you're the only one.
but if ur really getting knock with lower grade gasoline, maybe dont give it full throttle? or turn the knob counter clockwise?

there shouldn't be ANY boosted cars NOT running premium. wth? where did this question/comment coming from?

JesterMX6

i get no knock issues running 89 on an upgraded turbo at 15psi daniel. not all cars need premium. depends alot on how they're tuned.

24th July 2008, 12:27 PM
well sure. you can make up for it by running rich as ****. what did you just save?
86Shelby
24th July 2008, 12:27 PM
89 on the omni less than 6 psi.
91 on the R/T -been up to 20psi with no knock; consistantly at 15.

Exactly now you see my point, I want to run 15psi(ok technically 14.7), why should I run less boost or not run WOT just to run a lower octane?
JesterMX6
24th July 2008, 12:50 PM
because you'll be saving gas by a. not running WOT and runing less boost and B. being able to buy cheaper gas.

yup 10psi. 9* of base timing.

I don't run WOT all the time, but if the opportunity is there, I may want to. I don't really care about saving $0.10/gallon, if I was I would most certainly take out the boost controller, although the car is dog slow on 5-6psi.

it's your car. got a 1035 in there already?
Coupelx
24th July 2008, 01:54 PM
no and its not needed.
many have done the same thing as i am. i also dont constantly beat the **** out of it. if your 8993 is properly installed and your car is setup correctly then i see no reason for the 1035.
MadmaX
24th July 2008, 01:59 PM
of course it's not needed at so little psi, but it's like $30 more.

No, but why chance it

why change what isnt broke? I would suggest finding out if you are knocking first. Then if you are not, up the timing or the boost if the a/f ratios are in check. Might as well make it faster at the same time.

thats basic modding procedure for any car imo. make sure everything is tip top,
then mod it.

if you really wanna up the timing/boost, I have 4 water meth nozzles and a distribution block. Direct port water meth does wonders for suppressing knock. All you would need is a pump, tank, relays and a checkvalve.

Well until I find out if its knocking, I'm not going to take the chance so I'll run premium. I mean its already running two degrees more of initial timing and 2.7 psi more with a quick spool. I get part throttle boost already so I am sure premium helps with keeping knock down when that happens

I have a new ecu chip coming that will let me run 20psi, that's about the limit of my block anyway.

will you be able to tune the chip or get it re-burned? most mail order tunes are so conservative, they are almost worthless. I personally would invest in a nice wideband and something to read knock. Then make the adjustments yourself because even after this chip, you still dont know whether you are knocking or if you a/f ratios are in check. It will also set you up for down the road when you get tired of 20psi and want to throw in a t3/t4

Na! Mine saw 32+psi. The stock pistons on the other hand is a different story:)
My .02 is METHANOL INJECTION!!!!. or E-85. I have been at 32+ with a t3/t4 with premium and methanol on an 8v TD.

Chad I have a non common block(started building before I knew better)
SRT-4 it is kind of mail order, but its done by a guy that has an automatic TI Daytona in the 13's, I am sure he knows what he's doing, he asked for injector size, engine size, ported or not, etc. I can always download the free D-Cal and adjust settings if I need to. A JAW is on my list of things to buy before I put in the new cal, I just bought my 3 bar, so I need injectors and an AFPR.
Forgot to mention, the new cal will flash the Power Loss Light everytime it detects knock

That is good that you can make changes to it. I understand that you tuner will know what he is doing but it will be tuned to the safe side that way it cant be said his unsafe tune caused you to blow the motor. That is just how every mail tune is. The knock light is a good feature tho. Just dont make any adjustments without a wideband.

No I was just stating its not from some guy who found a tune and the internet and is reselling it, I was trying to establish that he's an enthusiast and from the info he wanted to know, it should be slightly better than a mail order.

get an LC-1 and a VEI display. You can get the LC-1 for $150 is you shop around and the gauge is $80. It isnt that much money considering it is one of, if not the most, important gauges you will need.
