Im looking for some ideas on how to gain some weight. (mostly wanting more muscle mass.) Im pretty light my age (17) I weigh somewhere inbetween 135-145. My weight has been going up and down since I had mono about a year and a half ago. I want to build some muscle mainly for hockey, because being a kid who 5'11 and only weighs 135-145 I get thrown around quite a bit. I usually run around 3-4 times a week so im not totally out of condition during the off season. Ive been reading David's weight loss thread and its pretty motivating for me to put on some weight but doing the healthy way. Any ideas?

you can do what i did. get a job at a desk, keep several thousand calories worth of snacks with in reach, only eat food that has been fried... go home and repeat. Good for 40+ lbs in 6 months
but if you want muscle you need to wait for others to comment.

To be honest it saves me from being really sore the next day, that and a lot of stretching
Greenmachine97
20th July 2008, 11:15 PM
Oh I stretch everyday when I wake up. It just helps me feel better for the rest of the day. And during hockey season it helps cuz I hate pulling muscles.

I dont do as much lifting as id like to but i guess I should start doin that more since hockey seasons pretty close believe it or not.
I lift usually twice a week
Cotnerdude
22nd July 2008, 12:06 AM
I jog for 15 to get my heart rate up, lift for a while and then jog as hard as I can go for 20 min. I have been eating more protein than normal and I am gaining some muscle, but no weight. I wouldnt mind losing 10 lbs though.

Wok out > Whey Protein within 30 minutes > repeat.
What i plan to do anyways. Yes protein is good, but protein when your body is done working out or lifting is when your muscles need it the most and will be best.
Must gain wait so this season i'm not getting thrown around by the Nebraska Women's basketball team this year haha, (i'm not kidding, they're tough)

I recommend True Mass from BSN, I have gained almost 15 pounds of muscle in about 1 month. Total I'm about 25 pounds, in six months.

breakfast-egg and oatmeal
snack-good protein (jerky)
lunch More Protein and slow digesting carbs think whole grains
some nuts or a piece of fruit and a protein shake before workout
Double Protein shake and some fast digesting carbs
maybe some cottage cheese before bed
good nights sleep
protein shake before you run
thats what I got for ya. True mass from bsn is a good idea. Muscle milk helps your body make more of your own creatine. My cousin took it all through College in Fort Hays and now he is around 180-190 and started at 135ish. good luck man it takes time but it will came to you.

As someone who used to play hockey I found a few things that seem to work well...eating lots of protein does definitely help build muscle, there are also hockey specific exercises you can do to help build target muscle groups, especially those that will actually aid in the sport
Squatting is great for the legs, helps with your stride as well
Biking is also very good, targets a lot of the muscles you'll use in skating and is great for cardio
Lots of crunches and core exercises are important as well
For the upper body i pretty much did just push ups although I probably could have benefited from targeting this area a bit more
Though some of the best hockey exercise is, of course, just practice

This is true. I use to weigh about 150-160 when I was around your age, and I'm about 5' 11", 6'. Now I'm around 190-195 3 years later. I'd just eat everything you can get your hands on that’s decently healthy for you. Eat constantly too, not just 3 big meals a day, make it 5-6 smaller ones throughout the day.
I'd stay away from supplements until you've reached some sort of plateau which is year/s from now. But the best thing to do is hit the gym, and hit it hard. The more you go to the gym, the more you can eat, and vice-versa.
Chicken, Steak, Pasta, and if you don’t like tuna, learn to like it. Put a can in a bowl, mix in some low fat miracle whip (or something similar) throw some salt and pepper in for taste and eat it just like that, or throw it between some bread, potato bread is a good source of protein (like 3-4g per slice?) Regardless protein is gonna play a major part in gaining weight. But then again, I don’t really know anything.

Posted via Mobile Device Looking back now, if I wouldn't have worked at Valentino's back in high school and college, I probably wouldn't have gotten so fat. Also, if I had tried out for freshman football like my dad said, or done track my senior year like the athletic director said, I probably wouldn't have been as fat.
