Found this car on a customer's place April '06. It's a 1950 Buick Riviera Super 56R. It has a 263 cid ohv straight 8 motor, 3 on the tree and 3.90:1 axle. It sat in a garage from 1969 to 1993.
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk117/fmstruck/100_4228.jpg
The garage fell down around the car and they sold the property, so they moved the car to a new location where it sat till I found it. I couldn't believe how complete it was and the customer also attends my church, so I bugged him every Sunday till he put a price on it.
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk117/fmstruck/100_4230.jpg
Struck a deal finally, and drug the car out of the windbreak. Engine was stuck so I pulled the plugs and poured it full, I mean full of Howe's Fuel Treatment. Left it sit a week and pulled the starter off, pryed on the flywheel teeth and she broke loose.
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk117/fmstruck/100_4234.jpg
After I got it loose I just put a 12V coil and batt. in it, poured gas in the carb (chased out a family of spiders) and it actually started and idled. Pulled the Master Cylinder off, rebuilt it and actually got 1 brake to work. The tires held air so I drove it home.

Of course I was too dumb to take any pics of it where it sat or before John (80'427) buffed it out, but I'll post some more of the engine and such.

The red rims look great! Seriously, I like them, don't change that.

Don't plan to. The trim rings were on the car when I found it. 2 Dog dishes were in the trunk. The rest I found at the local salvage yard. They along with most of the trim on the car are polished stainless.

I kinda like this as a goal, but my car is too complete to butcher. I may bag it in the future though. I just don't wand to do anything to it that can't be undone.

Safely in bed. The Local Fire Dept. actually has orders to pull the car out of the building first if the place is on fire.

High tech fuel system. 20mpg. No kidding.

Count 'em "Eight in a row makes 'em go." (old Buick adv. slogan)

Hood opens either way, or you can pull both latches and take it off. (If you have help)

I know where there is an old straight 8 in a rusted out shell in a tree line back home. There is also a rusted out Buick Gran Sport convertible, power everything with a 425 Wildcat in it. Really sad actually.

I think just one, I really have no idea. The car is used for cover in a home made paintball course back home. I could look the next time I am back there. That Gran Sport has to be rare as hell though.

He asks because in '40 and '41 they had dual carbs and a split manifold. And he won't rest until my '50 has one on it.

I assumed it was something like that. I can't even confirm that it is a Buick, although it is a straight 8. Next time I am back home, I'll try to take some pictures.

Buick is OHV. Most others are Flathead. (Pontiac, Packard, etc.)

And we plane like .150 off the head and have cam ground and change that weak ass clutch. Then A/c.

Yeah, they say mowing .125 off the head will boost the compression to nearly 8.0:1.
82355
14th July 2008, 03:22 PM
Yeah, I don't think it's a Buick. I believe it was a flat head. Just thought it was odd seeing 8 spark plugs in a row.

Uh, no. Nothing against your 2.3, it's just too new to be rat rod material. It belongs in something like this, (insert your own less god awful color)

I see what you're saying, but any motor that's been in production more than three decades and is commonly available complete and running for under $300 sounds like rat-rod material to me.

After taking delivery of Jake's prized 50 Buick last Fall the only thing that really needed to be done was some upholstry work as the front seat was pretty bad off. Went with a simple black-n-white tuck and roll style cover.
With our harsh Wisconsin winters the 50 sat idle next to my 1930 model "A" coupe that I just finished buiding last summer.
Temps finally hit the 40's and into the upper 50's this weekend so I took the Buick out all 3 days and logged over 100 trouble free miles...looking forward to a lot more cruising this summer.
Currently just a set of fender skirts and an authentic set of 3 or 4 bar spinner hub caps up front are in the plans...love the car too much to alter it beyond that.
Here are some shots of the interior, my coupe and the 50 with the coupe.

Chadly, you should probably go in to the noob section and make a thread. If you don't the admins will ban you. Tell us where you're from and such and post some of your rides you have on your facebook page. Keep the pics of that A coming.
Also, I'm sure you noticed the gas gauge doesn't work in the '50. It has a cruising range of about 150 miles safely. I'm sure it would go more than that, but I don't like walking.
