So i'm tryin to do this get in shape thing again... I've been sticking to my no pop thing (haven't had a pop since december 26th 2007, which is 201 days) but now I'm upping it by being more active than just the lifting/walking I do at work (trust me, I do a lot of that)

2 weeks ago I weighed in at 281 at night. I just weighed myself a few minutes ago at 272. Stamina is slowly getting better as I'm making it through more games of basketball as weeks go on.

I'm not going hardcore on the diet, just making small changes. Less sugar and "healthier" meals (been eating fruit and yogurt as well as drinking just water for lunches).

basketball was fun today but wow I have a long way to go before I can return to my high school weight of 160.

So i'm tryin to do this get in shape thing again... I've been sticking to my no pop thing (haven't had a pop since december 26th 2007, which is 201 days)

side fact.

it takes ~30 glasses of water to neutralize the acidity of one can of pop.....isn't that crazy.

There is a theory going around that people w/ bodies on the acidic side of things are more susceptible to sickness/diseases and people w/ neutral bodies are healthier...

makes sense.

So the way I think, milk is a pretty neutralizing food....I drink lots of milk and rarely get sick

Update:

Right now I'm sitting at 271 lbs. So from my very first post I lost only 1 lb. However, how I feel... night and day. I've never been more agile or had as much burst. My back feels good, my knees feel better. The biggest thing IM trying to do now is keep hydrated during the day with water and setting a better sleeping pattern and getting at least 6-7 hrs per night. Seems to be working so far.

Ok, so I just stepped up and ordered some supplements.

Pre Workout- Controlled Labs Green MAGnitude (http://www.dpsnutrition.net/get_item_cd017.htm) ( Creatine, Taurine, Tyrosine, Betaine Anhydrous)

Intra Workout- Controlled Labs Purple Wraath (http://www.dpsnutrition.net/item.asp?n=CD016)

Post Workout- Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein Chocolate Flavor (http://www.dpsnutrition.net/item.asp?n=ON402)

Everyday Multivitamin (recommendation taken from Coop)- Now Foods ADAM (http://www.dpsnutrition.net/item.asp?n=NO088)

I bought it all from DPSNutrition.com ... I put all the same things in BB Superstore cart and DPS was about 13 dollars cheaper. I also got a free shirt :D

Anyways, I figure I've lost 30 lbs since last year just by cleaning up my diet and working out more. I want to step it up and get a boost going into this summer. I'll be updating my WL more frequently now, including measurements. This will help me keep track of progress better and stay better motivated I think...

Protein - Optimum Nutrtion Gold Standard

Creatine - Gaspari SizeON (ahmad went with CL GreenMag)

BCAAs - CL Purple Wraath

Vitamins - Now ADAMS

Fish Oil - Any (high mg omegas/price is how i go here)

Thats the basics....and although the list looks long its not too bad...you take each at a certain time of the day...once....

I can tell you on workout days, you take the creatine before you work out (half hour?), the purple wraath while working out (just take small drinks throughout workout), the protein you take after your workout (within an hour).

As for the multivitamin, I can only imagine you take them in the morning? Coop can correct me if im wrong.

protein - depends on your goals....morning, post workout, night if you are trying for muscle growth....post workout only if you are trying to lean out....and maybe one to replace a "meal" on a 6meal a day thing

creatine - during workout

bcaas - 30 minute before workout (get ready for a tinglely sensations ahmad haha)

vitamins - morning

fish oil - morning and before bed (or just all at bed time)

Thunder

Thunder
1st March 2009, 10:16 AM
true. I think GreenMAG is mostly preworkout. I figure I get that mixed up and drink it just before heading to the gym, bring purple wraath with me, and have protein ready to go when i get back. I've heard about that tingly feeling with PW, does your whole body tingle?lol why is that?

So between march and now, I've been dealing with a groin injury that just kept nagging and nagging and nagging and killed all my desire to run during the weeks... which in turn killed my desire to lift. On top of that, I started getting into a bad routine of unhealthy eating. Somehow I was doing enough activity during the week between work, football and occasional bball that my weight went from 245ish to 250ish

No more of that... worked way too hard in the winter just to **** it all away.

So now that its been about 2 weeks since football, I've maintained some light activity and my groin is starting to heal finally (it no longer hurts to run or put on pants or lift my leg) and I think its time to get it the ol college effort again. This time I'm going to step up my dietary restrictions, drinking 1 gal of water, avoiding all unnecessary drinks (including fruit punch, a recent staple) and limiting gatorade/sports drink intake to only intense physical activity. Also incorporating a lot more fruit/veggies into my diet.

I however am not going to be incredibly strict, I will allow 1 cheat day(meal) per week. I figure eating whatever I want for 1 meal out of a possible 35 a week, is fair enough.

Also I will be doing some P90x workouts, mostly stretching and plyometrics.

Overall my goal is to get down into the 225-230 range by late august.

you should buy the bands so you do core, arms, legs and back.. i love those workouts. i got my bands on amazon for cheap. I also got my block and pull up bar there as well. i have my pull up bar in my half bath... it works great.. i have some dents on my trim but thats about it... i'm really surpised is how well it works for not being bolted up to anything.

walmart gallon jugs for $1.00 (mountain spring water)

nice shape, makes it easy to take on the go.

i moved to vit water so i had something 0 cal and some nice flavor.

at $1 a bottle it cost way more than just a gallon of water but it's a lot easier to suck down than straight water.

Drinking nothing but water is very tough, if you go one month and drink a soda, it's very weird.... DO IT!!!

I have not had a traditional soda in well over a year and a half (pepsi, coke,mt dew, dr pepper, etc). Last time I had one was December 26th, 2007. I can't imagine what one would taste like. I do not drink their diet variations either.

As for the water, it does seem like a chore. However working up a good sweat, nothing really hits the spot like a semi cold water. Vitamin water is decent, i like it. However I need to keep a specific water intake of 1 gal per day.

Whats your fav vitamin water? I like "Sync" (berry-cherry) the best probably..

all those are fine and dandy but since im a little eco-conscious i try not to buy bunch of plastic bottles....i prefer crystal light packets to water.....its just water with a few antioxidants and a touch of caffeine.....i then take vitamins for my vitamin intake.....

beats the $1-2 bottles of vitawater, sobe, life, etc

so, I currently sit at 242.5 lbs, in which I went to bed last night at 245.8 lbs. What a productive night of sleep LOL

I started my lifting routine monday, mostly upper body work.
Chest flys
Chest press
Arm curls
Bicep curls
Lateral raises
Hip Adduction (very light weights to try and rehab my groin)
Started lifting with a 5 minute warmup run and finished it with a 10 minute medium pace bike ride.

I then went yesterday to try and do more Core exercise and Tricep work
Arm extensions
Back extensions
20 situps (on the inclined situp machine)
Tricep curls (machine)
Tricep curls (barbell)
Chest Press (barbell)
again, started yesterday with a 5 minute warmup on the elliptical, finished with 10 minute medium pace interval training on elliptical (sprint/jog/sprint/jog, etc)

I've also finally got my supplement routine going, I have skipped the Purple Wraath both days but have been taking my Green Magnitude (Preworkout creatine complex) and post workout Whey (tasty with milk). I introduced a new supplement that I purchased last week called Blue Gene by Controlled Labs

Designed to help the serious athlete optimize mitochondrial biogenesis, hormone level ratios, and support oxygen rich blood cells during athletic performance and recovery, this stimulant-free formula means more endurance, power, and better recovery without pro-hormones or grey area compounds. No hormones means no post-cycle therapy or other risks associated with exogenous hormonal ingestion. Key Attributes:

* Controlled Release Formula
* Stimulant Free Endurance and Stamina
* Natural Power and Performance
* Optimize Natural Hormone Levels and Recovery

Cissus is a natural, cutting-edge anti-catabolic compound that has taken the supplement industry by storm. While more research is needed on the exact mechanism of its anti-catabolic activity, we do know that the phytoconstituents are active and effective, improving the support of tendons and ligaments (tendons and ligament function is essential for weightlifting strength and form).

Carnitine was added to the formula for its numerous benefits, including recovery from intense training. When part of a CONTROLLED LABS stack / combo you have the ability to train harder AND more often. Users have reported enhanced energy, alertness, and fat utilization leading to a recomp effect. Another mechanism of action may be that carnitine enhances our 100% natural hormone levels during training including insulin-like growth factor.

Carao and Catuaba extracts work in synergy with other ingredients to help the muscles receive more oxygen, improving performance and strength.

Quercetin and Ginkgo Biloba (used for centuries in China) provide a stimulant-free performance boost by increasing oxygen and circulation, giving the serious athlete a unique alternative to stimulant-based products. As a bonus, over time the formula may help support a healthy immune / respiratory system with potent anti-oxidant properties. Sodium Bicarbonate acting as a hydrogen buffer, helps reduce fatigue during training and enhance recovery between sets.... experience jitter-free endurance and stamina like never before.

lcariin, Grape Seed Extract, Griffonia Simplicifolia Extract, Apigenin, Luteolin and Niacin work in synergy to help increase bloodflow, natural growth hormone levels, and circulating levels of testosterone while keeping estrogen under control.

The biggest thing I've noticed with taking it the last 2 days, is I seem to recover faster and are less sore than what I would normally be after such a long break from lifting.

HOLY
****.

So today was an off day for lifting. Of course I gotta still take supplements on my off days, but thankfully 2 of the 3 main supplements I take for lifting also aid with overall energy/stamina. Played some full court B-Ball. This time I cracked open the Purple Wraath and took a serving of that, 5 pills of blue gene and 1 serving of creatine. Dear god what a rush of energy. 1 and a half hours of basketball and I still wanted more. If it weren't for this stupid groin injury that just won't heal, I could have played another hour and a half. I am not sore or even tired.

I also noticed it killed my appetite big time. I have my normal Subway 12" right here and I'm not even done with 6" and I feel like I'm full.

Today is the big day, lower body lifting. For at least the next 2-3 weeks, all my lower body work is going to be basically rehab. Very low weights to start and gradually increase. I'm anticipating starting squatting at a very meager 100 lbs. Leg press probably start at 150 lb reps. Hopefully i can be full strength in a month, we'll see.

I think tonite was a success.

Took my normal stack, started attacking the legs. Leg Extensions, Leg Curls, calf raises, squats and leg presses. Very modest weights on them all. The biggest concern was squats, because thats where I generally would feel pain. Took it light, 10x100, 5x150, 5x160. Same with leg press, 10x170, 10x200, 10x230.

After all that, did a 10 minute interval session on the elliptical... built up a good sweat and kept my heartrate between 120-130 from the first minute on til finish.

All in all pretty productive night, no pain anywhere outside the norm.

Another fairly productive night.

Tonite I kinda went a slightly different route with my sets/reps. On my last set I increased the weight increment by double. So with a lot of my sets, I'd go for example 10x70, 10x80, 10x100.

Tonight included arm curls, chest fly, rear deltoid fly, lateral raises (shoulder/delts), bicep curls and bench press. All of which except for bench press, I was doing my staggered 3 set rep setup. On bench press, I had no spotter, so I just did 10 reps of 100 and called it good... could have done more but I saved it for last and by then I was getting slightly fatigued. I capped the night off with 10 minutes on the elliptical, interval training ofcourse. I increased the resistance this time and overall ran less distance but kept a higher heart rate (145-150) and broke out a little better sweat.

Also before I went to the gym, I weighed myself in at 244 lbs. Thats up 4 lbs over the week. So I'm guessing the creatine is working well and causing my muscles to retain water. There is a visual difference now. I should have done some before/after type stuff, but I never gave it thought til now. Arms/legs are bigger and I'm starting to see some veins goin through my forearms/biceps when I'm lifting (something I never noticed until this gym session)

Tomorrow and Sunday I have football for Cornhusker State games, so I may not do any running and only do a light lift session this Sunday.

25th July 2009, 05:14 PM

Purely motivation my good man. I hate it that when I go and play football that I've got a pretty decent skillset and absolutely no athletic ability. So I'm the fat kid whos got good hands and runs a good route, but I'm slow and can't always get open. I always tell myself, if I could just run worth a damn I'd be a better player. So athletic performance drives me. Thats only 1 reason too... its also nice to LOOK in shape. Having a gut disgusts me greatly.

Now, this is more like it.

I had no intention of going to the gym today but last nights absolute failure was just gnawing at me all day. I refused to have 2 off days in a row.

Loaded up on Purple Wraath, Blue Gene and Green Mag and hit the gym hard with the cardio work. 20 minutes on the elliptical, 12 of it being quite intense (1.6 miles in 12 minutes with increased resistance reaching 45% during the high intervals) I wanted more though, so a very small cooldown and then I hit the treadmill for another 1/2 mile at a brisk walking pace (4mph).

Afterwards, did some forearm exercises with 15 lb dumbbells. Then did a couple sets of calf raises with 60lb dumbbells. Used the exercise ball to do some core work, targeting obliques and midsection. Went until it burned, then pushed out another few reps. Finished the night with some "specialized" training... 10 lb handball and going through football throwing motions trying to emphasize speed on the delivery.

All in all, a very good night in my eyes, busted out a pretty hardcore sweat and I feel sore/good.

241.2 lbs. I'm kind of excited because after hard running nights, I'll typically lose 1-3 lbs overnight, so tomorrow morning when I hit the scale, I might finally reach 239.x

Thunder

i will probably stay at snap just for the sake of convenience... although I think having a workout partner would be nice, especially for lifting (spotters are nice). How much is prairie life?

plc is 48 for me...i think thats a normal membership....problem is i went to west 0 one since its close for me....if you sign up at 70nA you get to use that one and west O one for same membership and they have courts at 70nA....i havent really asked exactly how that all works but im too lazy....i would be more motivated with a group or partner (remember im out of town a lot during some weeks :) )

thanks tim :)

Welll I was going to leave tonite as an offnight, then decided in the afternoon I was going to go ahead and try to kill myself again, but I ended up getting caught up with some other stuff so I didn't work out :( Going to have to make up for it tomorrow.

freakin awesome.

So this weekend in a way I cheated way more than I needed too... while I avoided all the sugar I could, I still was eating some rather unhealthy food (KHANS LOL) That said, I kept up with exercise as much as I could (DnB/basketball on saturday and softball on sunday) Today I just had a NICE 1.5 hour workout of basketball... damn near nonstop running. My shirt was totally soaked in sweat, I was exhausted.

After taking in some fluids and changing, weigh myself
235.4 lbs.

freaking awesome.

Thunder
4th August 2009, 06:57 AM
still at 235.4 lbs this morning, which makes me happy. Put on a new set of smaller sized boxers and my old pair of pants which is a size too big... a nice feeling

I'm jealous of you bball players. I used to love bball...But ever since that fateful day about a year ago when I messed up my knee in an SCR balling event it hasn't been the same... :(
