View Full Version : Dents on dash

So I'm an idiot and put an air compressor in my passenger seat. The bottom of it had lil rubber pads and it rested against the dash last night and most of today. Apparently it left 2 pretty good indentations. One side isn't so bad, the other looks a bit bad. The dash is from the Camaro, so its kinda that hard covering over foam
is there any way to pop those back out?

I was told heat could help push that out one. Start to warm it with a hair drier.

now i forgot to ask... do i need to help it out alittle? Or will it just push itself out from expansion?

knowing what those are made of... i doubt heat will be your friend. I had one in my TA dash. I never cared to attempt to get it out... mine almost look like someone took a pin and stabed the dash but didn't break the plastic..
The best thing i can think of if it really bothers you.. inject some kinda of filler into it using a very small hole.. honestly i doubt that i will work either. sorry
there is a very thin layer of foam under it.. the foam doesn't bounce back.... i think its' really there to help with the shape and really offers no support.
Last i knew dashes ran about $200

i'll wait a couple of days and see whats up... i'd probably spend the money on a dash because it honestly does bug me to death... I don't know how i feel about a new dash though...the work involved..ack.

yeah i would too. i wasn't even driving the gray mx6 and it had dents on the maroon dash and a crack on the top.
thus doing a whole dash swap in the car.

matt
9th June 2008, 10:43 PM
JAH! why not in the back?
Thunder
9th June 2008, 10:46 PM
Didn't fit real well and I honestly didn't think it would leave that kind of impression on the dash.
matt
9th June 2008, 10:47 PM

call up billy graham and see what he sells a dash for

it did, its not like I wedged it in there... thats a result of it just sitting against the dash during the night/portion of the day.

That sucks. But if nothing else, Justin claims to be pretty adept at R&R on 4th gen dashes.

i honestly doubt there is anyway to fix it to the point of looking new again. Looking it over i have some ideas on how to fix it but it still wouldn't be perfect.
I think a new dash is in your future....

how long did it take you?
David
9th June 2008, 11:58 PM
uhh... i think i started when i got home from work and finished around 3 am..
i took a few pissed off breaks and did it all by myself in the dark. Having one to look at helps with finding the hidden bolts. Also i had to splice the air bag **** to fit since i was leaping from a 95 dash to a 02 dash.
it's not hard by any means but i dont' wish the task on anyone.

95 to 02? those should be completely different?

also, you might as well mess around with them and see what you can do if you are seriously considering a new dash, you have nothing to lose if you mess it up worse right?

there pretty easy to change. I have done 3-4 of them and removed probably 10+. first time always blows because you dont know where all the hidden screws are at. interested in putting a T/A dash in your camaro? i put one in mine. I have one i will sell ya for $150 with all the plastics that you would need that are different.

what are different? Will there be "trans am" anywhere? I'd be interested, seeing as I someday plan on getting T/A seats too.
David
10th June 2008, 04:50 PM
The dash does not say trans am anywhere.. $150 is a good deal i'd say, especially since you won't have to pay for shipping.

you apparently didn't get the text saying "YOU'RE AWESOME"
lol
they did start to pop out apparently... unfortunately I think the dash itself may be creased so i do not think they will go back to looking like before, but it'll be far less annoying to look at when I get into the car. May still be interested in that other dash though.

I clicked the ban button and the site made fun of me.. lol.

the only real diff between the T/A dash and the camaro dash is the trim around the guage cluster and the trim around the radio. the vents are round instead of square and the fog light switch and traction control switch are moved. lmk if your interested in it. the dash is here in KS but im headed back to NE this weekend so i can bring it there.
David

Everything about the TA interior is > the camaro interior.

10th June 2008, 08:59 PM
the gauge cluster in the t/a doesn't really do it for me, but I agree otherwise.

it rocks and you know it. you just wish you could put it in your ta.
