Remember the Tempo that I had that got totaled when it was just sitting in front of my house?
Well the dad of the person that hit it gave us $1,000 cash for it. Then took it and left. Well I forgot the plates on the car, and the guy wouldn't return any of my calls, or answer his phone when I tried to contact him to get them back. Well today I got the thing in the mail for the plate renewal thing for like $74.50, What the **** now??
Yeah I know <---------- retarded for leaving plates on the car.

but what if he hits someone and drives off with the plates he has on there now, which are in our name?
We signed the title over to him, but I think he's just been driving on our plates...

Wouldn't the cops come after me since I have no way of showing I no longer own the car?

You should have your copy of the bill of sale dated and signed by the buyer.

Dont worry about it. Tell em you sold it. I sold a car, and the guy never registered it or anything, and he ended up cutting the roof off of it, and tipping it upside down in a ditch or some ****, and since it was last registered to me, the sheriff called me saying i owed like $400 to get my car out of the ditch i was like huh!? It all got covered, although the guy i sold it to, talked to me, but I said i sold the car months ago, and everything was ok.

it doesnt matter what they hell they do with the car or the plates, they cant touch you. My dad sold a firebird and about a year and a half later the state patrol show up at the door asking about where he was on a certain date, etc. he whipped out his copy of the sales tax form and all was well.

Just tell the police the car belongs to the prior owner still, and you are working on it for them. Works everytime.
