Bought in this condition, with approx 175K, a bad starter, and no compression in one cyl due to a shitty exhaust valve. Still had a lot of fun in the snow though. I was very excited to find a a good deal on a '84 (solid front axle). Has a lot of potential when I can throw some real money at it someday.
Brought it home like this.

It has the pimp SR5 interior, with the off roading gauges, and comfy as hell seats... a shitty pic of it dirty right when I bought it.

Time to begin upgrades:

The stock fenders and quarter panels were all rusted out and very shitty looking...

So I busted out the handy sawzall and created my own new ones.

I messed around with it quite a bit on the old tired 22r, but [edit: brando] found a deal I couldn't pass up on a '87 with almost 300K on it, and a EFI 22RE with a somewhat recent headgasket/timing chain job that I decided I needed to have for parts. The body looks decent in this pic, but the rear half was full of shitty bondo work and it has the ghey IFS front end. It did have a shitton of parts I kept though including rustfree front fenders, spare doors to make half-doors out of, spare top to cut up and make a soft top out it, spare rear end to weld up into a homemade locker, and it ran absolutely perfect.

Haggard as **** working conditions in the near dark while striping the rear end/loading it up to take to the scrap metal yard. Started in the daylight, but took a LOT longer than planned as usual...

It was definately shitty, and funny as hell at the same time.

The quality EFI in sitting in it's final resting place.

Now the real fun begins.... figuring out the haggard wiring situation. Toyota had wiring running the engine come through 3 separate harnesses.... ecu to engine harness, drivers side body harness for the afm/other bs, and passenger side body harness for the engine bay fuse block/power/other bs that runs behind the whole dash and all over. It was a holy ****, and about 50 ft of wiring after all of it was striped...no picture though sorry.

Yes, working conditions continued to decline. Yes that's a lunch cooler that oil was drained into
Also had to swap out gas tanks/lines, which was a ton of fun.

Yay, all done. Ended up just wiring up a standard relay for the fuel pump, so I didn't have to deal with the stock circuit opening relay triggered by the afm which can sometimes be troublesome.... and rewired everything that was in the body harnesses like the afm from scratch so I didn't have to deal with em. Also relocated the ECU to the glovebox, so water rushing in someday doesn't fry it immediately...

Quick shitty shot of the bedliner paint job I did. It only has one coat on it thus far, and I really love it. Am going to put at least one more coat on to increase the thickness/durability/texture, as it's the cheap stuff and went on fairly thin.

As it sits now finally topless for the summer.....
